they make a horse bucket , ( tractor supply company)  or any agway or horse / farm supply .   Its a 5 gallon bucket w/ a heater built into the bottom of it  you have a cord coming off the back of it and need to plug it in ,  so the water does not freeze .   They also have a heater puck you can drop into the water . these buckets are made for horses and farm animals .   Works great for outside pets of any kind .
The one with the one buit into the bottom is better for the dogs cause then they are not pulling the puck out or chewing on it .    they run about 25-30 dollars ,   which is not bad ,  I have mine now for over 13 yrs. and use it every winter .   They last a very long time .  Only down fall to them is if you have a chewer , he/ she will eat the bucket.

dogs will chew ice if you break it out of their dishes and leave it in their kennels.  otherwise, don't fill their pans.  add small amounts throughout the day and when it freezes break it out and then add another small amount.  if you can't break it out, just keep adding a small amount until you have a chance to thaw the whole thing.

I do not think the Dogs bother much about water in the freezing nights, I think the trick is to feed twice a Day
Cut the days ration into two and give them a good 1.30 minutes for the last feed before dark sets in that way they get a good drink or two the food will not take up as much water as if you give them the food in one go
Anyhow i feed twice a day all year round as above
Tonight it is  Minus 12 Centigrade but the dogs will be fine

If you had electricity then Osborne Canine Canteen is the way to go!!! I've had them last up to 12 years. I don't know any  other way to keep the water from freezing.

My oldest Osborne canine canteen is at least 16 years old maybe a touch older. I remember they were only $60 back then. I wish I had bought 20 of them  :)  They were galvinized metal.
The next bucket I bought was $80 and the last 2 were $120  :(   I still wish I whould have bought 20 way back when!!! Now they are stainless I think
the best way to go IMO
