That is why we started the original "Buyer Beware" thread with tips.   The one currently on the page contains the link to the original thread.  Hopefully, it will be of some value for those in the "research phase" of getting a gsd.

Although I laud the choice to move to less sloping toplines, I find that nowadays rookie breeders are OBSESSING on making "straight backs," to the detriment of the hundreds of other issues that make a dog breedable. How the heck did that make No. 1?

Edit: actually, I think I know the answer. I think it's because a sloping back is so very obvious. You don't have to test for it.
