With my puppies I can usually tell at 2 weeks, definitely by 3 weeks, but on this board I have seen a couple of photos in other threads that left me unsure! However the puppy posted here is definitely not a long coat, no question.

I've noticed a distinguishing characteristic that is present essentially from birth and I have only ever seen it with coats.  It's hard to describe but the fur on the bottoms (backs) of the forearms of coats sees to have a pattern...looks sort of like a part...that I have not seen on pups with standard coats.

Hanny is stock, but very plush.......I'm hoping this one turns out the same.

I'll look at the forearms.........thanks

Here is a pic of a 5 week long coat. Notice the brissles of hair on the muzzle and the wavey hair on the ears.
This is the puppy Yellowrose was sure was not going to be a longcoat. The muzzles also appear to be more pie shaped then the non coats when looking straight on at the tip of the nose.
