I think Max would like it if a VA dog won the BSP and vice versa.

I like good dogs from both lines.

.

There are breeders that have mixed show and working lines many times with excellent results.  Karl Fuller of the Kirschental kennel is one of these breeders.  He has managed to maintain the work ethic of his dogs and still have correct structure. Even though their dogs are mainly show lines they have been known to bring in a working line if that is what is needed. Every dog I ever have gotten from them has had excellent temperment, working ability, and structure.  Mixing the lines can be done but it must be done very carefully and for a definate purpose.

Best Regards,
Cheryl

I think we may be in the dawn of a new era as more people seem to have a dislike for the oh so clearly defined differences in the breed we all love. It takes a heck of a lot more then a litter here and there to determine if mixing lines "is good". Done well I think everyone wins especially the dogs, doing it just to "see what you'll get" is a disaster waiting to happen and you end up with nothing. If you are going to play that game you better be in it for the long haul, have plenty of recourses (skill, time, money & space) accept culling and or have an unlimited number of "pet" homes to place "the ones that don't work out" and be really good at picking dogs. I'd love to be a part of it but I don't have everything it takes right now. My statements are base entirely on my opinion so take it at face value.... & you know what they say about opinions....LOL

I have no problems reading fiction. I have problems when facts are muddled up with fiction.

what facts do you think are being muddled up with fiction?

Give me the moment & I'll play devils advocate against myself (previous post)
Let say for example we have 4 litters- (very hypotheical and super generalized but humor me....)

litter 1) beautiful & talented working line sire/dam - no line breeding
litter 2) beautiful & talented show line sire/dam - no line breeding
litter 3) beautiful & talented working line sire / show line dam - no line breeding (obviously...LOL)
litter 4) beautiful & talented show line sire / working line dam - no line breeding

Would the result of litters 1 & 2 produce anything better other then type then litters 3 & 4....?
If no, why?
If yes, why?

facts are facts and fiction are fiction. Its the humans who destroyed the showline dog. And now the same people who ruined the showlines want to go after the working line and dilute the working line philosophy. I can swear on this if the show lines get into the working line and the day comes when working lines dog is being shown in shows many genius breeders of the working line would STOP breeding GSD dogs and get out of the breeding. The reason why show line people are mixing working line is simply to tap into growing dog business emerging markets . I hope you get the idea:)

cheers

this very same concept is being carried out by multitudes of "back yard breeders" even as i type this post, and it will continue, west german show lines are being bred to american show/pet lines, working dogs being bred to the same american lines and producing "pet quality pups that working families can afford($200-400.00) which is not a good deal anyway, they should be free or never born.....they show up at "pet-smart" and "akc type obedience facilities across the nation, with the random"schutzhund titled" or "sg show type" dog listed on the pedigree.more often than not, poor conformation and instability of temprement shows the true character of these dogs...as their owners proudly proclaim how tough their dogs are as said dog looks to be a bundle of nerves, barring teeth with raised hackles....german shepherd dog???? well it's wearing the suit, and may outwardly appear to be one...but really?!!!i'm not an "elitist" in any sence of the word....this sad state of affairs can be blamed on the "fast buck" breeders who've probably never trained or titled a dog in any sport or service venue...they depend on the uninformed"impulse" buyer to line their pockets with untold riches(yeah right) and never intend to offer the owner/buyer with any feedback after the sale(buyer beware). let me assure you that i never have, never will, blame a puppy for being born...they all have some value, and i treasure them all,nor will i/can i say "that pup can't do this or that.....common sence training will bring out the quailities of the pup, what ever those qualities might be. as to the original post"WORKING LINE/SHOW LINE CROSSES"...why?????.....if this was a reliable formula then surely it would have been done in europe many times over.....you be the judge...pretty working dog/hard working show dog....hasn't happend yet.....i've never been to the big conformation show in germany, nor to the "bsp",but i've been to many schutzhund trials here in the states(regional/nationals)....the conformation lines were "missing in action" at these events....my involvement in the sport is at the "club level",and that suits me just fine,i love to see the top trainers put it on the field.....but i'd love to see a big BLACK/RED dog from the traditional "show lines" sitting on the podium at a major working event !!!!!!!

I'm not against "Show line" Look at examples of Blue von Scipio. He is the Pillar of the working lines and has produced phenomenally with X with working.Would you call him a show dog? I don;t think so. He was a Working dog in  golden and saddle body. But where is the show product today??? This year;s ULM show was proof eneugh of what gutter they have pushed the breed into.

cheers
