Vikram, there is a problem, in 2008 this dog came in fourth place not second.

Why do you call the new handler an idiot? He was smart enough to buy a pretty good dog and handle it to the BSP. If he's an idiot what does that say about people that have never been able to handle a dog to that level?

To me this looks to be a very good dog that is now having some problems. I could see the same problems at the WUSV in Ohio. I think that to make a presumtion that it is a training problem is a bad idea. Some times dogs simply can't handle the stress of the training to compete at a high level for several years. Also a lot of very good dog have injuries that hold them back from top scores. Or maybe the  fouth place BSP 2008 was a fluke and WUSV 2008 and BSP 2009 are showing the dog's true qualities.

I can't believe your words just shows your height of ignorance " This is a good dog that is now having problems"  You know its remarks like these on this board by people which don;t let me sleep in the nights :))) I really don;t know whether to laugh My ass off or weep. Why are you killing a dog's name which really does not need to prove anything in this world anymore least of all on this board? For God's saake this dog is V rated. R u for real???!!!!

Thanks for your comment and sharing your view point anyways.

regards

Just my very humble opinion, but when a trained dog says piss off on the out, yes, it is a training and control (and dare I say resepct?) issue. Not a surprise when a strong dog goes to a new handler, wouldn't you say? Out of curiosity, what else would it be?

Mystere

I can suggest something, Kczaja: the dog gets hurt (helper steps on foot, jam, etc) and is pissed about that. A good, strong dog may not out, when that happens, either. I know of one WUSV dog that was retired when his scores started slipping. The new owner got a thorough veterinary exam and serious dental problems requiring root canals was revealed. The dog had actually been in pain for God only knows how many competitions (much less training sessions) and still worked his heart out.

There are strong dogs that at times do not out.

Excellent point, Mystere. I hadn't thought about that. I would hope that a top dog would be kept under close watch, especially when showing behavior that appears to be uncharacteristic, but dogs can be misread and mistakes occur.

As for a strong dog, yes, at times they do not...but, with outstanding training, wouldn't you agree that even the strongest dogs, competing on a world level, should have the control to out? That to me is the beauty and challenge of the sport, compliancy and exhuberance, in even the most hardcore dogs.

There are strong dogs that at times do not out.

There are weak dogs that don't out too.

This thread raises a very interesting point that came up in training yesterday.  While the sport officially encourages and promotes itself as one of aggression-under-control, this is sometimes belied by the crowd reaction to a dog who is actually a little out of control, especially strong, tough, even dirty dogs.  Although we tell outsiders our dogs are safe and under control, we seem to sometimes have an emotionally charged and postive reaction to dogs who defy control.

Sort of like the attraction many women have to "bad' boys... ;-)

Or better still my little son who is naughty and is always reprmanded by his class teacher for being out of control

cheers
