I think it is crap too. Just something to complain about
I also think that sheep can stress out easily in general they are not strong as cattle.  the sheep get used to the dogs.
The sheep also rely on the dogs to protect them from real threats such as wolves and coyotes.
i would think men hitting them on the rumps and yelling is more stressful then a herding dog, the ram will also charge a man quicker then it would try a dog who bites in warning the ram he is not in charge.
ha, i think the story is wishy wash.

I assume goats are pretty much the same as sheep. There is a good size goat farm down the road from my house.
I stop and laugh quite often when I pass there and watch the baby goats running around with the big ole white dog playing with the babies.
Most days you see the dog just laying there hanging out with the goats. I'm sure he's there to keep the predators away .We have loads of coyotes 'in them there hills". I listen to them on a regular basis.   I have 2 pygmy goats that 'try" to terrorize my dogs. These 'go-go" goats don't give a crap about the dogs !  If Duke tries to boss them, they say "Whatever"...
