Sitasmom,
Do you have any kennels set up at your house?   You will need to be very careful when adding an older female that you don't know into a household with several other dogs.  There are lots of ways to do this safely, but you need to be in charge and be able to take charge quickly.

Good luck,

Jim

We have a "dog room" with 5 large crates. The dogs are put in their crates ONLY when we are away from the house, or when house training or during feeding. The dog room, which is adjacent to the kitchen, has a gate to keep dogs out of kitchen when I'm cooking (I have my limitations!). Dogs sleep, un-crated, in the bedroom with us, but not on the bed (again, my limitations).

We have a fenced back yard and one small kennel run, but do not use it because barking dogs would bother our neighbors.

We have a remote bedroom that we'll use for whelping and plan to move the pups as they are weaned.

Should I keep Hanny in the remote bedroom so she can become secure with her new whelping space?

good info on the link....

You're welcome.  I'm really happy for you.  She looks lovely, and puppies are so wonderful!

Yes, as the newbie to your household, you most definitely want her feeling that her whelping room is HER room, her very SAFE place to have her litter.  She will be half way through her pregnancy when she comes to you, so getting her settled, confident, relaxed, and feeling safe & secure for her whelps is paramount.  She's obviously had puppies before, so hopefully you know what kind of mother she is.

But a mother dog feeling threatened in her mind can do strange & terrible things, so yes to her knowing that her whelping room is the safest place she and her pups can be.

With whelping so close, that must be your priority.  You have all the time in the world to get her used to the dog room and the bedroom, etc.  after the puppies.  Not saying don't ever put here in there now, because you don't want her thinking that's the ONLY place to be safe, you do want her comfortable in your entire household, but #1 priority is her learning to have faith & trust in you and to feel safe and happy to get this litter born and raised.

I would introduce to the male first.  As previously posted it probably will be the females that prove to be the most "interesting" as regards introductions.  My personal experience has been that my imported adult females did well with my males, but did very poor with my females.  I could never really trust them.  Yes I would make the whelping room your new dogs "room".

How exciting!!  You must be floating on air.  No advice, but sending all good wishes!  I hope you post pictures of her as soon as you get her.

"But, remember that bitches are every bit as nasty and unforgiving as human females and will fight to the death. You may just have to keep them separated. "

Hee hee, had to laugh at that one!

Hanny has been going out on walks with 6 female, 2 male german shepherds and 2 weiner dogs.........

Our dogs seem to get along well, and will go out on runs together........

As with everyone, we hope that after a few weeks they will be able to get along.......
