I wonder myself what possesses me to continue my pursuit of being a breeder. I have had nothing but horrible luck. I have done everything by the book, morally, and have lost thousands of dollars, cried countless tears, only to see some yahoo's pet store crapper have 12 healthy pups under a back porch.

Then I have client after client with an unhealthy or unstable dog, or comes to me with a story of how their breeder lied to them or generally screwed them over. I see puppies sold blatantly with a "bait and switch". I see so called SchH3 dogs tuck tail on a working field and book it, I see puppies bought for thousands of dollars from "top" studs rampant with health and temperment problems. I see extremes destroying the breed. I see breeders selling the wrong dog to the wrong buyer without a care for anything except the check clearing.

And THAT is what keeps me going. God help the GSD if honest people who really care, about the breed, the buyer, and the individual dog, just throw in the towel. If those who truly do it right quit, the mental and physical integrity of the breed will permanently collapse.

Wow, I really didn't think raising Good German Shepherds was that difficult. I can honestly say that in the 17 plus years my family has had and sold pups, I HAVE NEVER ONCE had a complaint on bad hips, or bad temperments.
When I sell a pup, I give aq full guarantee on health, hips and temperment. My hip guarantee actually goes for the life of the dog. i do specify, if at 8-9 years your dog gets a little lame, that will give you discount, not replacement.
I have a waiting list where I live, for pups from my dogs(believe it or not). I can state quite proudly, that there are more better bred, better quality German Shepherds around my town(s), due to the fact I take pride in my dogs. They are members of the family.
I spent a lot of time researching pedigrees and OFA's before I got Duke. He is exactly what I wanted.
I have numerous people wanting to breed their females to him, and I WON'T DO IT, like I said, I take pride in my dogs, and I have too much respect for Tracey to put her work out there for the sake of a buck.(And I certainly ain't breeding for an unknown line pup)
I guess we got lucky with good foundation stock. We did however get dupped on one female way back in the beginning. She was spayed before she turned one. She did stay with us anyway until she passes away at 12 years old dragging her rear behind her.
The woman I bought that dog from, is still breeding dysplastic dogs. I have refused to sell her pups, numerous times. I don't want my name on any breeding that is not guaranteed, OR NOT MINE.
No disrespect to any one that works, and has worked their dogs for their breeding programs. It has only been since I came here to the database 'To Learn" the betterment of the breed, that I got serious with training and x-rays. I'm still learning something new EVERYDAY!!!!!
