Haberno, as I said above, that was just a TEST to see at what point my dogs started to have difficulty. It was a one time thing.
To repeat what I said above: short, heavily baited tracks, aged 45 min. to 1 hour, so I can practise starts and older tracks at the same time. Then, decrease # of tracks once the starts get better, but still bait heavily until they get used to tracks that old.

Do you have any thing that you do before you track each time?
The reason I ask is dogs will pick up on subltle routines. With my dogs I will down or sit the dog about 15-20 meters away from the track let them gett acclimated to the field and do a litlle calming. I have the same routine before i get to the track so that they realize when we do this then the track is starting. That in itself may help your starting...
I understand it was kind of a test but the varability had a little to do with how the track was baited.as well as the time, besides it being the last track the dog ran being the hardest.
If I was going to do multiple tracks with my younger dog.I would really only do a couple at most. When the dog shows correct behavior reward it as best you can make a huge deal out of it. (to the dog)
I guess my thought process if the dog does a good job and you reward it big time,,, it sits in the dogs memory, Then put your dog up in the crate or kennel and let them come off with a win. All training should end with the dog having success If you run multiples and the dog starts ok for the fisrt several then finishes bad. then you have another problem then You have a dog that is a little tired that has to wait for the next track to age letting them come off with a loss.
Again just my opinion..Also your trainer sounds like they have a plan, listen to them as you main source of info and use anything that anyone on the internet says without seeing your dog as just things in the back of your mind. Since without seeing whats going on it is really hard to diagnose a problem without actually seeing it

NOOOOO kidding! LOL!
Last night, I put my bum pack (treat bag) on, and both dogs went NUTS as soon as they saw it! OBOYOBOY, we're going TRACKING!!
As for the last track being run poorly, we still found the glove, which was a sucess for the dog, and I gave extra food on top of what was in the glove, so as to create a positive memory. From the dog's POV it was still a 'win', even if I had to throw an extra piece of food on the track to help him find the corner!
But, like I said, that type of multiple track is not something I'm liable to repeat any time soon.
I know it's important to finish on a positive note, but a dog's memory is short, He's not like a kid who flunks a test, then develops extreme anxiety over the next test. (Thank goodness for that!) So, if my dog does poorly on an exercise, I praise them up anyway, and they're none the wiser.
