You should always feed puppies foods that are approved either for puppies or for all life stages. If you feed a food that is approved for adult dogs only, there will be inadequate amounts of protein, and improper levels of calcium and other nutrients.

Large Breed Puppy Formulas may not be the answer, as they often replace protein with carbohydrates. Protein and carbohydrates contain exactly the same number of calories per gram, so reducing protein in favor of carbohydrates provides less needed nutrition without reducing calories.\
High protein diets are preferred, as puppies need protein to thrive and studies have shown that high protein does not lead to developmental problems, but high fat diets may contribute too many calories, leading to rapid growth.

This is why I use the Large breed puppy with added raw meat, eggs, cottage cheese and yogurts  no low fat mess either..regular...]

OVER FEEDING IS THE REASON GSD GET INTO PROBLEMS,,NOT LARGE BREED FOOD
.
YOU MUST LEARN TO RESTRICT YOUR PUPPY......BONES TO CHEW WILL KEEP HIM HAPPY .....NOT MORE FOOD.

We have neither in our area but RAW is the best to go always.

it all depends on the dog

Both made Hero sick.

In my experiences neither.
I have heard of so many sick dogs on BB.
And nutro the ingredients are bad.
try wellness or royal canin 24

Wellness, especially their "Core" series, is a well made food.
I would use caution with Royal Canin. They are owned by M&M Mars, the same company that owns Nutro and Pedigree. It will be interesting to see what happens with their products. While Nutro may not have been the best product, it used to be, at the least, pretty reliable. Since they were bought a couple of years ago it seems that all hell has broken loose with them.

Stay away from both.  I would also stay away from the Royal Canin.  It is disappointing to see dog food specifically formulated for breeds and yet we all know that GSDs can have tempermental stomachs, yet the first ingredients are the cheap allergy driven CRAP.  Chicken and Corn.  Personally we like Flint River Ranch.

Forgive my ignorance.  Is this the same M&M Mars as in the candy company? If so, I am not surprised.  They cannot even use safe manufacturing practices for the people food.  Too cheap to use different manufacturing facilites for their products with peanuts.  Unlike the Hershey company.  They finally came around a while back.  Sorry, that's a sore topic for me.  Got a little girl with a peanut allergy.  Can't hardly ear outside of our home anymore.  It only takes one lazy cook ya know.

Thanks for all the responses! I was just wondering which one is the better choice because there are these nagging sales people in Petsmart always trying to sell these brands to my father and I.
I feed Nutri Life GOLD All Life Stages in the morning and Raw in the afternoon for my 4 month old GSD.
Nutri Life Gold All Life Stages

Blue Buffalo is very good food, I feed my dogs their Wilderness formula and am really happy with how they're dong on it.  I've tried Evo, Before Grain, TOTW etc and my guys look best on the BB I think.
There is no corn in BB, or wheat, soy, etc and it's human grade meat.

I use to feed TOTW and ever since that last bag I got with smaller food/different shades of food color I now feed Blue Buffalo.  They don't seem to eat as much, and are doing well on it. Stools are fine, never any problems from it.   Before Anubis I did feed my dogs Nutro and they all started throwing up every single day so I switched. It's not good to throw a dog from one food to another, but the Nutro food is crap, and it is not natural for dogs to throw up once or twice a day EVERY day.
