Never thought of using a fishing scale before. Great idea, I need to raid my OH's fishing box.

Also if you can't get Dopram for the slow puppies a small bottle of Brandy is good used for the same thing and when whelping is over you can always celebrate with it.

I always have a muzzle in my box as well, occationally you get a maiden bitch that can freak out at the last minute as the puppy is birthing. I had that happen once I was thankful that I had a second pair of hands.

I use paper towels not regular towels and puppy pee pads to put under the mother prior to and after each puppy it keeps everything much drier I buy new carpet remannts and cut them for the whelping box,the puppies do not get under them like they would with blankets or towels also have a heating pad under the carpet for the first two weeks ,we toss the carpet and replace every couple days

Actually, I've been told Vanilla Ice Cream is good to give in small amounts to the bitch for an energy boost. Maybe I'm wrong?

My Vet recommends the ice cream also. Sounds like you have everything you need.
Are you making a whelping box? If so let me know I have a few sets of plans.

Once the whelping kit list is compiled, it would be great to have it posted in the general articles of this board.........what do you think?

I'm actually buying my whelping box online. I found one that is nicely built, and about the same amount that it would cost me in supplies to build.

That is an excellent idea. I think that would not only help the newbies, but even the people that have been doing this for years. Just something to reference if you feel like you are missing something (I do this all the time with a lot of things...I'm the type of person that always questions if I turned the coffee pot off every time I leave the house...Yes, I'm paranoid ;)

I also like to keep chicken broth on hand. I've never had a whelping female who would refuse it- although sometimes they aren't interested in plain water. Good luck and its the law of the land here that WE MUST HAVE PUPPY PICTURES!!!
