I have a man that still owes me $ 200.00 for his dog, that he never paid me, he wanted to give the dog back so I advertised
the dog & found a nice home, the people were real interested, BTW he wanted to part with the dog cause the dog didn't pay
attention to the wife.
Then he falls off the face of the earth, I tell the people that are interested in the dog that I can't get a hold of the guy.
The man that falls off the face of the earth finally contacts me, says he gave the dog to a police dept. nearby (Which I call
& check, they have never heard of him) THEN, tells me he would like a pup from my next litter, like I forgot he still owes
me $ 200.00 and I said to NEVER give away the dog, return the dog to me under any circumstances, Ahole, I can't believe
he can lie to me and cheat me out of money, (I already gave him a $ 200.00 discount cause he was a veteran,)
I now wonder where the heck is the dog..............
Maybe I canpost him as lost, I still have his paperwork.......

People so stupid they think everyone is dumber than they are.
I've seen that BS, too. People who want a "pet" and want a really nice pup, young adult practically for free when they REALLY intend on breeding it. They quibble about the pedigree, are hips/elbows OFA'd, etc. If it's gonna be a pet and they want it for almost nothing, do you think someone is going to spend the time and money to register, OFA certify, and train and title it, and then GIVE IT AWAY?
COME ON, PEOPLE!
A lot of us are hurting because of the economy but using up dogs as if they were throw-aways makes me seriously want to HURL!!! You gonna pimp out your kids, too?

I recently got a call from a friend that adopted a dog (6 month old pit mix) from his local animal shelter Shelter states she has been ver checked and cleared to be adopted. He gets said pup home and the dog starts with the bloody diarrhea, vomiting, and the feces STINK. He calls the shelter and the shelter tells him that the dog recently had routine antiobiotic shot and vaccines so "this may be common, keep an eye on her and don't worry". He calls his new vet to get her in as soon as possible and after describing the symtoms, the new vet wants nothing to do with her and suggests euthanizing. He took her to an emergency vet where she was diagnosed with parvo and mange. She is currently doing better. The shelter has yet to admit the dog had parvo, said she most likely got it from him and "it must be a doozy for the dog to get that sick that quickly, and the dog was perfectly fine when she left". He also found out other dogs that had been adopted out had mange and parvo. The shelter has not returned his calls and his vet called the State for a full investigation.

One of the reasons I cannot in good conscience recommend adopting a puppy from our animal shelter. I've just seen too much heartbreak. The family adopts their new puppy, name it and kids start getting attached and thn it comes down with parvo, or worse yet, distemper.
I think they may be a little bit better now, but still they get these puppies in, crappy nutrition from womb onwards, parasitized, stressed already and then they SPAY or NEUTER them, vaccinate them and put them up for adoption.
I always wonder how many do not survive the first 24 hours post surgery.

Okie Amazon,
My rant wasn't aimed at shelters in general, it was just this particular case. I am guessing from your message that you have a similar shelter in your area. It's a shame when something that started out for good reasons, to protect and help animals, gets dragged down due to the incompetence, greed, or stupidity of a few people.

My shelters here are great, we work together...
One way of fixing the puppies that are sold as pets only are to spay/neuter at 8 weeks old...I know some of you disagree, but I have been doing it for about 3 yrs now with the dogs I have to whelp out...some rescues come in one week from whelping...they are done at 8 weeks old then adopted out...we have never lost one...all pups are healthy and I even kept one of the pups till is was older and then a SAR person came and wanted her...
She is still growing great and absolutely no problems...
So the answer to the breeders that don't want their dogs bred and end up sold on craigs list or getting bred by their unfixed, unregistered male/female is fix them before they go to their new homes...they will be much happier in the long run and then you don't have to worry about unexpected puppies...
Also, I won't adopt to anyone that has an unfixed dog in the house...all mine are fixed before they leave anyhow...
Maybe some of you breeders need to get a sales application like I have...go to my website if you want to copy it...
I get lots of people wanting a protection dog for their kid that is playing next to the wilderness forest...what the F*** are they letting their kids play next to the wilderness, with mountain lions, wolves and grizzlies nearby unsupervised????
Go Figure...I tell them to get a gun....I don't want to lose my dogs or keep your kids closer to home....
