Uber Land

I have raised quite a few orphaned puppies strictly on goats milk.  I buy the myenberg brand, can be found in the baking area of places like walmart.

Thanks everyone....I will see what I can do. My girl hasn't had her puppies yet....just getting things together "just in case". I want to be prepared with the hopes that I won't need it. If I didn't have it then with my luck I would need it....

Personally I like animal naturals Puppy Gold.  On the milk front I would check with your local extension office and see if they can put you intouch with a 4H group that has dairy goats or check with the high school FFA program, I am sure one of the two would be happy to sell you some goat milk.

like uber land, i have bottled lots of pups, and many other animals as well.  i always recommend goat milk.  years ago, when we were breeding dogs, i took milk straight from my does and gave to the nursing dams as well as the pups as soon as they were able to lap from a dish.  you could not ask for better doing pups.  often the dam does not produce enough milk for the litter.  the goat milk helps her maintain condition and produce more milk.  the pups are shiny and healthy.  really remarkable results.  good luck.

I've used the same basic formula on everything from kittens to birds to pups... etc... without the Yogart part and with excellent success.  The reason for the Karo instead of honey is the danger of bacteria in raw honey.  The raw yoke as the white can't be digested.  If I've puppy vitamins I add a bit of that also.  One beauty of this formula is that as pups get a bit bigger you can give it to them in a pan, mix a bit of the kibble they'll be eating in it... zap it with a blender... and as they get older just increase the kibble and decrease the formula and not get the digestive upsets that other pup formulas seem to cause.  Goats milk is wonderful.. and when I milked 3 does I gave my gang goat milk on their kibble, even with the adult dogs with no problems.  So the Yogart's fine, but if you don't have it don't sweat it.

Goats Milk is the best!!!

by k9sar06 on 05 May 2009 - 14:05

I found the yogurt and will keep copies of everyone's suggestions here just in case for the future.

The only yogurt I could find is organic and plain for babies....It came is an 8pk which I think will work even better than just one container.

I bought canned goats milk but will see if I can locate fresh also.

Thanks everyone!!

So, when's the big day supposed to be, K9?  Must be getting pretty close!

by k9sar06 on 06 May 2009 - 00:05

9 days and counting.....

I can't wait....IT'S KILLING ME!!!

She is SOOOOOOO attached to me I can't leave the house without her and tonight she has started a little nesting in the whelping box. The vet called yesterday to check up on us and they are on "stand-by" in case we should need them.

I have all my supplies and am ready any time she is. We've been taking slow 1/4 mile walks every other night the last 2 weeks and her belly is now so large that when she sits it sags on the ground. She's even losing the fur on the under side around her teats. No milk as of yet but my other female didn't have her milk come in until the last minute.

She's eating very little kibble and only small bits of real food....some water but that has also decreased.....I thought she might go early but with such a large litter I don't know if this is pre-labor stuff or she's just outta room...LOL!!!
