I only asked for help because I didn't know what to expect. I wasn't expecting sarcasm like I recieved from John. That was alittle uncalled for. Kinda makes me wish I hadn't asked for help. I am young and just started with this type of training. I don't need anyone insulting me offering me 50 bucs for my pup. I love my puppy just as I am sure John does his. For an adult, I do believe that was not setting a good example for younger people like myself.
John wasn't insulting you. He was making a joke that is frequently made here in this forum. He wasn't serious about offering you $50 for your pup and I'm sure if he sees this he will say so. He thinks your pup is a good one and he'd like to have one like that himself - that's what his joke meant.
Not only are you young, but slow. John was being a smart ass. It was a joke. Not even going to explain it to you.
Glad you're a veteran of the rodeo. Riding bulls may come in handy!
i wasnt being sarcastic at all. just a joke. oh well, good luck with your pup.
best info,,,,,,,,, get with a trainer and hope the hell they know what they are doing. other wise you end up with a pup you cant handle and a trainer only into it for your money.
what you are describing is called prey drive. the dogs genetic make up tells her to chase and bite that which moves. i call it survival instinct. in the wild a dog chases that which runs, catches it, kills it, and eats it. we as humans must learn how to channel this behavior to suit us. if we cant do this, then we only make the dog less than what it was breed for.
how should i know your age or anything about you when you offer no info about yourself and only ask open ended questions?
john
look all I was asking for was help.. I am new to the board. I dont know how people are on here... how u can u call a person slow without knowing them.. U know me so if u intended on hurting my lil young slow feelings then it didnt work.. Ignorance does not faze me at all.... I apologize for what was said bout john... I am new to the board and to the site I was asking a serious question not asking for a joke or laugh...
going have to get some thick skin quick if you are going to post here.
your pup is doing exactly what she should be doing according to her breeding. plus she is at teething age, so her gums are probably sensitive and she is chewing and biting to try and releave some of the discomfort.
Yea I see I will have to get some thick skin... its all good.. now that i see and understand how things are im fine.. guess i took it a lil to serious... tomorrow i will try a few new things with her.. I want to encourage the bite work but not on me... I shall try treats instead of a toy for a reward... i never liked using food as a reward.. usually just good praise but with this lil shit im desperate.... im willing to try anything except sell her to john for 50 bucks... 75 and maybe we can work something out.. but anyways i will approach her with a somewhat diffrent attitude tomorrow and diffrent style... She'll be fine..
If you'd like to learn more about the sport of schutzhund, here are some websites to look at (my links aren't clickable since I'm on my XP laptop using Firefox which isn't completely compatible with the editor here):
www.schutzhundvillage.com
www.bodeus.com
www.workingdogs.com
www.aniwa.com
www.shawlein.com this site has an illustrated GSD standard
You will also find training articles on those sites and links to other sites that may interest you.
To find a trainer or schutzhund club in your area check out www.germanshepherddog.com and look for the club links in your area.
What else? Oh, there is www.leerburg.com which has a million articles of varying quality and a message board.
Do learn about German GSDs. Don't think you know all about them because you have been around American GSDs your whole life. The Americans have managed to breed much of the original instincts out of the GSD, in pursuit of ,,,,,well, we won't go there. Read Linda Shaw's Shawlein site and you'll see.
The Don is that way to everyone. Don't take it personally.
Learn as much as you can about GSD drives and find a trainer to help you with some hands on help.
oh i know im not fond of the american shepherds.... i like the good ole working dogs... to me and this is only my opinion everyone has one and is entilted to one.. an american shepherd ( bloodlines ) is some what a disgrace to the GERMAN SHEPHERD breed and what was originally bred for.. I was raised with shepherds and I dont know everything... i want to learn and excel in the breed... I have owned a pup with the leerburg bloodlines and he was a hand full also... I had a little sable female when I was 11 that had names in her ped that were a mile long and wouldnt even think of trying to pronounce.. she was awsome she was so high strung and high drive worse than cinka that I gave her back to my friend that i got her from I knew I wasnt ready for that... I appreciate the help Sam and I will def check into those sites... I just didnt want people to think I was coming in here with no knowledge at all of the breed I have a good bit but there still is so much more for me to learn.. and since i am slow it may take awhile...
