So would you say after the pain went away in the back of your leg - you could walk a  foose with your dog with the cast on?

Mystere

Job--as in the Bliblical story.  Job, who had everything happening to him--the quintessential hard luck story:.  21st century version:  Husband ran off with the babysitter,  the same week the car was totalled in an intersection T-bone. Car totalled , two days after your kid was flunking out of college that you paid for with a 2nd mortgage, on a house that just burned to the ground.

Sept 21, 07, Beckett, then an over enthusiastic but very large puppy, jumped off my deck/porch to greet my daughter, launching me, on the other end of the leash, 6' into the air....I landed about 8 or 9 ' away from the porch, half in the dog's kiddie pool, completely tearing all the tendons & ligaments in my right shoulder. Beckett turned around, came back to me wimpering. Complete reconstruction of my right shoulder & 4 months later, I could finally function again. This past January, I slipped on ice trying to get to my car to go to work, blew out my right knee, had to have a total knee replacement March 12. I'm at the point where I can walk unassisted, but when I was really gimpy, good ol' Beckett, now a very masculine 2.5 year old, decided he was my protector. Normally we fuss on the left....he wouldn't leave my right side, even placing his body between my knee & objects blowing along in the wind. Couldn't budge him. He would take a long sniff of my knee & that was it, he would glue himself to my side. He absolutely knew something was wrong. And when the incision began to heal, & I got promoted to walking with a cane, he went back to fuss-ing on the left, like before, & back to being a goofball. Every once in a while, tho' --he'll sniff the knee, & sit down next to it, & throw his head back over his shoulder & look at me, for all the world like he's checking on me, & it's usually when it's been hurting, too. jh

Ahh!  Gotcha Mystere!  Either that or the universal klutz award!

Happyday I trained through it, mostly because I figured it was muscle cramping due to the shifting of usage.  I realized after I posted to you that I was also trapped in a fiberglass cast from my toes to my knee but since you are able to take your's off at night some gentle rubbing might help ease the aches.

I also upped my potassium intake, basically stuff I would do if I was having normal cramping in my legs and tried to stretch my toes as much as possible.

As I said, within a week to 10 days it went away but there were times I almost called the doctor to ask about it.  Except I knew if I did he'd just tell me it was my own damn fault for insisting upon walking on the leg in the first place.

RLHar - we do what we gotta do... we all have responsibilities and lord help me - I have a addiction of dog training.... the first think out of my mouth when I had my back surgery - as well as this broken foot thing was - Can I train my dog... didn't matter his answer - he said the right thing - but I would try to train anyway....

Kal.... Talking about your dog sniffing your injury - my puppy does the same thing..... you have to wonder - is this a sign of a therapy dog in the making?  Miramom what you think?  Now I do Schutzhund - so my male that is sniffing my foot is high drive - and not for  people with  medical problems - though for one small moment- he seemed to care about me... just one moment - the next one- he grabbed my hand and brought blood..... I wouldnt have expected anything else out of a 3 month old...

I have used the advise  - on the heel to toe - and i have to say- the back of my leg is feeling a little better....  I will try to train my dog tomorrow...  we will see...,.

Used to was...(as my kids used to say)....my female was the sensitve one who would hover over you when you were ill, but since that first fall I took holding his leash, Beckett's been super careful about me....& he is pretty high drive, & big....that's kinda what made it so remarkable. He could be a Holy terror (my husband walks him on a pinch), but he's a perfect gentleman for me! But when he's working, look out! My hubby watched him work at training over a year ago, it made a big impression on him! jh
