LOL.......

Guns beat killing each other with axes and knives...

I never caught the religeous connection of Columbine....  how'd that escape me.

How did anyone know a swat dog would turn into gun control.

So be it.

Tragedy.

Now I'll just slip on my flame-retardant jacket and say  if a teacher had been armed and trained it would have been less of one. Likewise Virginia.  I don't know if anyone remembers the Luby's Cafeteria massacre in Texas?  A woman was having lunch at the time with her Mother. She had concealed carry, but the gun made her Mother "nervous" so she left it in her trunk.  Her mother and father were both shot and killed.  I saw an interview with her later and she said she would be haunted for the rest of her life because she had several opportunities for a clear shot at this nut, but was unarmed.

This article says she left it in her car due to the laws, but I saw her say otherwise at the time.

"The great object is that every man be armed. Everyone who is able may have a gun."-Founding Father Patrick Henry

'A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball, and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be your constant companion of your walks.' -Thomas Jefferson to Peter Carr, 1785. The Writings of Thomas Jefferson

'One loves to possess arms, though they hope never to have occasion for them.-Thomas Jefferson to George Washington, 1796

"No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms."-Thomas Jefferson, Proposed Virginia Constitution, 1776, Jefferson Papers 344.

"Americans [have] the right and advantage of being armed, unlike the citizens of other countries whose governments are afraid to trust their people with arms." -James Madison

"The Constitution shall never be construed to prevent the people of the United States, who are peaceable citizens from keeping their own arms ."-Smauel Adams

I remember the story too.

I would hate to live in a world where teachers had to be armed..... thats just sad.

The fact still remains you can't blame an object for what a human uses it for.

Same with the drug thread...   its the person who makes the choices.

I carry and I'm responcible for the choices I make.

Moons....The Judge in the Columbine case locked up the tapes for 20 years..This is why

Listen to the tapes.

http://judicial-inc.biz/Basement_video_2.htm

The girls at the school were "Christian God Loving Whores." Klebold said "I am glad we killed Christ" and Dylan says "I will shoot the Christian girls in the head."

Explains it well.

I agree moons:

It is a sad day when we wish teachers were armed but it is a symptom of a far worse problem the destruction of the family and values taught by the family and personnel responsibility that many of us were held to by our parents but seems to be lacking in many children today.

As long as we let our goverment tell us that they can raise our children better then a father and mother in a family home then more of these horror stories are coming.

I saw that video, it wasn't locked up it was on tv.

I don't think religion was the basis for their actions.

But hey, mans been killing over religion since time began.

And man has always been twisted.

I dunno, not in the mood to debate the mind of man today.

>  Back to the topic, UGLY I will be doing some work with our SO soon with the choppers also. I will be riding a couple of days to get my PSD familiar with flying, and then we are going to do a couple of mock escape scenarios.

>  One will be putting us down in a last known area and attempting to locate the track, then trailing until the find. Another is spotting one in an open area, landing, releasing the dog from the chopper to chase the bad guy down and tackle him. All scenerios will be taped also.

>  Can't wait to start flying again either!!

I've heard all the arguments over the years, Ugly, and it all boils down to personal choice. In this case, choice has a lot to do with culture. The States had its wild west period, where citizens took the law into their own hands. They are still living the fruits of that legacy today.

Canada had the RCMP, which enforced the laws as settlers moved into new areas. There was little need for vigilante type justice. The RCMP almost always 'got their man'.

Yes, I know this is a vast oversimplification. The only areas of Canada where guns are a real problem is where the drug and gang culture have taken root. The U.S. is losing its war on drugs, and citizens see no option but to arm themselves for protection from being robbed or mugged. Canada is determined to win the war, and inner city police forces are doing all they can to turn the situation around. There are certain areas in Toronto where I wouldn't want to live, but for the most part, I can walk the city streets unarmed and unafraid. (I no longer live in Toronto, but still visit fairly frequently.)

The only situation where I could possibly see myself purchasing a gun would be if I went into farming, and needed it for varmint control. Still, my prefered method of controlling predators would be a flock guardian breed of dog, and if that didn't work, a 40 or 50 lb. hunting bow. As for burrowing animals, carbon monoxide, delivered through the tailpipe of the tractor is a great way of controlling groundhogs, and it's relatively humane, too.

And that's all I have to say on the subject.

Except to add this:  if guns are so necessary to keep the peace, how come London bobbies, to this day, STILL don't carry anything but night sticks?

Culture has a lot to do with it. And the gun culture in the States is THE reason I will never move there!

Deacon...very cool. Report back and post photos of you and your dogs (department)

Sunsilver...An armed society is a polite society. The safest  & Most polite place you can go visit is a gun show.

Englands' Cops carry Sophisticated assault weapons now. They banned guns in England and Crime is through the Roof in every category. Same in Australia.

Gun bans only benefit the criminals and the government.

The recent gun shootings are PROOF that the police cannot, will not and dont protect innocent civilians. Armed citizens can fight back., but too often, are disarmed or in No gun Zones!

If wish to trust your life to 911 and the police, be my guest. I wont. and I dont.

I will  only call 911 to report a fatal shooting in my home,  of a perp that violated the Castle law.
