Can't find any good photos of London, the well known TV star of The Littlest Hobo. He was the same 'sable' pattern without mask.

Thanks, pod. I thought it looked like "London" but I haven't seen another GSD of those colors since ... well... London. LOL! That little bitch in the photo was a girl that was up for "rehoming" in an advert. I was quite surprised when I saw the color of her face. Wolf sable - that makes sense. Thanks!

Assuming London was purebred -
wolf sable is grey sable, with or without the mask there are not white patches on chest and face as with husky - this dog is tan, not sable - not purebred IMO and neither was London.

I've seen plenty of sables like that one. some in the UK, others here in the states. I've seen some working lines, though tan or red sable, not have the dark mask, and others out of white to color breedings.

I have to agree with Molly london is not a purbred . Nor is the one posted by Luvdemdogs a purebred .

I dunno - "London" was actually many dogs - and they all had similar markings. They have always reportedly been purebred GSDs - and I think they're still selling some of them - but the coloring has changed.
I always thought they looked like those czechoslovakian (sp?) wolf dogs in coloration - but everything i have read says they were purebred GSDs.

What I have read about London was he was a stray dog, and the others who played the part were his sons.

here's a pup with similar markings. lighten the undercoat to silver and she would look like the dog pictured above. and she is a pure bred gsd. the color is possible, just not seen very often anymore. mainly in pet quality bred dogs. I know of 1 longcoated one in the UK who is this color (like a ElkHound or Husky mix) and at least 2 or 3 in the states that color. just cause it isn't a common color does not make it not pure bred. MANY gsd were colored like that or had similar markings when the breed was being developed. its only natural that you would get a throwback to them every now and then

Wow! Thanks Uber Land. That's interesting.

This puppy looks like a normal sable with washed-out mask to me. He does have a black muzzle even though it's washed out, and normal GSD markings though washed out in pigment. Doesn't look like the dog in the previous picture who has very distinct white markings, and no mask, also not a sable color - tan. By looking at pictures I can tell this pup is purebred, still think the previous one is not.
