It was tough to get the vet to listen but got another 28 day supply of doxy and then will test him. She said most vets only give one 21 day supply and that should be plenty. She also recommended yearly kidney tests and plenty of frontline this summer so he doesn't get re-infected. The way the vet explained it the infection will never go away completely .but you need to get it low enough that the dog's own immune system can keep it at bay. Thanks again. It helped a lot having all the information. Could be I'm worried for nothing, but as the saying goes, better safe than sorry.

Something to aware of...doxycycline can be very hard on a dogs' stomach lining. It;s wise ALWAYS to give with food and a good idea to also give carafate or some other stomach soothing and coating med.   I have seen a few dogs come into the ER with perforated ulcers while being treated with doxy.

Amy gave alot of good advice on the C6 testing,  just also wanted to mention,,my vets have told me that once a dog contracts Lyme it makes no sense to continue with the vaccine as it won't be effective. Some dogs can have side effects from the vaccine alone.

I live in Lyme, ticks are a way of life around here. I have never had a dog contract Lyme, BUT they have and still do, test positive for anaplasmosis (picked up on a snap 4)  Two of them have been high positive for the past 3 years,,I can't get the numbers down,,I lost my 12 yr old because he became quite neuro because of not being able to knock down the anaplamosis numbers.  My one year old is also testing positive..

I am hitting my dogs long and hard with doxy..I give a much higher dose of doxy than vet recommended and I will most likely treat for a good 3 months.
