I used to give Alaskan salmon oil and flaxseed oil to a food allergic GSD I had. It eased her itching some, as did finding out by the slow process of elimination that she was allergic to eggs. It takes a while for a food caused allergy to clear up.  A tea tree oil based shampoo also eased her itching. It's a challenge to keep an allergic dog comfortable, I know. Mine went on to the Rainbow Bridge after living for many years with limited symptoms on a strictly controlled diet. I've heard that the Yahoo group referred to above is a very good group. I found out about it too late for it to help me, but maybe it will help you. Good luck!

Just a note on diets.... Fish based diets are great for dogs with allergies... Your vet may recommend a food (like Taste of the Wild) that has an off the wall meat ... like duck, or kanagroo, or buffalo, because they arent in most regular foods that cause allergy problems.  Wheat & Corn are the biggest culprits in dog foods.  Go with your vets recommendation..... BUT KNOW IT CAN TAKE BETWEEN 6-8 WEEKS for an allergy diet to begin working.

If your dog at this young age is showing chronic ear problems... it is highly probable that a food allergy is causing it.  A good "natural" supplement that can help prevent yeast infections in the ear is called Acidophilus.  It is the same ingredient found in yogurt.  It is also great for a healthy digestive system and aids in the prevention of ear/skin infections caused by yeast.

Good luck to you!
