So excited to hear about Boy making not only V, but V2. In photo the dog is stunning, I have not some seen him person but look forward to seeing him at the Sieger show.  I have posted before that I feel the reason the reason show/work crosses do not often turn out as hoped is because the dogs being bred are too extreme from one another in type and temperament.  When a working dog has better structure than some showlines, it is foolish of showline owners to not utilize a dog like Boy to put more drives and work ethic into their lines.  Is his owner open to such crosses should a SL bitch owner approach him for a breeding?

I am never surprised to hear good things about Carlos. His actions several years ago at a show I attended proved to me he is a class act, helpful, and unselfish.

Congratulations to everyone on your ratings.

I think that Bob McKown makes a very valid point, that is root cause of problem....I have been to many conformation shows and it is apparent in many cases that the sable dog is put at SG or SG1 if really nice dog. As for preparation, I have seen many shows in which the black and red dog does not show good ring training, often because they show unsureness in a new environment that causes them to be hard to stack properly or doesn't gait as well because they are looking around at what's behind them....guess what, they still get a "V" rating. So there is more to the picture than just ring training. Shoot there are judges that everyone knows will not give a black dog a "V" rating no matter how good the conformation and ring skill. These are the type of issues that make many working people say the h--l with a show rating.

Carlos and Robin's help showed with all of the working line dogs out there.  Very good behavior was shown in the ring and the work showed.  Carlos and Robin are also interested in bringing the working lines back where they belong, on both fields of competition.   They have some fine dogs of both lines and really really care about their dogs and he puppies they produce.

It takes time and effort to ring train, condition and primp the dogs and it takes people who LOVE these dogs and this breed to do both.  Kudos to Indian Creek, Huerta House and OG Edgerton.   I think the message here is that, just as with a lot of hard working folks and Joe the plumbers, they "clean up" good and have manners befitting,  and in some cases, more "class" than others.

BTW- those folks at OG Edgerton can cook a great lunch and they did an excellent job with the venue.  Can't wait till next year.

jettasmom:

As long as the judge judges criteria by the standard and not personnell opinion that is great.

That's my point also, Bob. If the playing field is level you would see many more "V" dogs of colors other than Black and Red. Too me a showdog is not the color of the dog though most people see a black and red dog and say "that's a conformation dog", yet see a sable dog of impeccable anatomy and immediately assme this is working line. Just this thought process alone shows how faulty the judging and bias, that has been promulgated for the past 25 years. We immediately assme type of dog by color as opposed to what we see.

Bob I agree. I have to give the judge alot of credit because he made a valid point in Boy's critique. He said "I want to make a point here that by moving this dog up is to show it is not true we punish the dog from working class because if the dog has a good structure then that's the place he will get."

Thanks for posting that Jody and congrats on the breed survey too!!

It was a fun day and great experience for all the dogs and the host club did an awesome job in every way. It was nice to see everyone cheering each other on.

Carlos and Robin went out of their way to help us prepare and I am excited to hear we are hosting them this summer for a ring training seminar.

Looking forward to cheering on Boy at the Sieger Show.
