I was initiated into the sport in the humid swamplands of southern Louisiana. We started tracking early in the morning so that we could be done with all 3 phases for all dogs by 11, but it was miserable for 6 or 7 months out of the year. In the early morning it was still in the low 70's and near 100% humidity. The sweat dripped off my face just walking behind my panting dog on a short track. Back at the club field we had a garden hose handy and we would often soak our dogs and ourselves completely. During July and August we pretty much didn't train during daylight hours at all. We would train at night, not in the evening - the mosquitos swarmed at dusk. We'd wait until it was completely dark and turn on our car lights onto the field. Thank God I moved north to West Virginia!

Another joy of southern Louisiana was the sub-tropical quantities of rainfall. Sometimes I would purposely go out in the pouring rain with my dog and train in the slashing mud just in case it would be raining on trial day. It was miserable but a necessary precaution for that wet climate.

Now that I have some semblence of a winter in my new home in the Mountain State, I love training in the winter. Even when it hits 0 deg F I bundle up and go out with my dog. Of course, when the snow gets too deep it makes the dumbbell retrieve a real adventure for the dogs... where did it go? where did it go? LOL

SchHBabe, you are one tough SchH Babe. I could not stand living there......let alone training and trialing.

We only train outside all year round, The weather does not count, if it is pouring of rain i still drive the 40 kms and train if there is cold like this last winter, MInus 16 and 20 degs Centigrade we still train so the weather never comes into it
We do not never train inside, we do not have anywhere like it to train
The trials go on regardless of the weather It makes no difference, what it is or how wet or cold it is we still do it
The point is if you have to pick your weather to train, then it is time to take up a more inside hobby
