Oh boy now I'm a troll ? I think not . I have dial up ,so it is either computer or phone .I also have to work outside the home . It's called a job ! See what I mean with the attacks for a newbie ? I do not know who Carson is or what his or her story is . I myself am trying to figure out the difference between West  German working lines and West German show lines . So I am still trying to navigate my way around reading pedigrees .  That will be my thread when I start one to ask for help . Until then I am still trying to figure some of it out on my own . I do not want to look like a complete idiot . For the record I have a nine year old spayed female rescue GSD , no idea what her blood lines are . I rescued her when she was two years old . I am looking for a new GSD before she gets much older . I want to make an informed choice so as not to get in over my head before bringing a new dog home .         Jimmy

normally a working line dog is dark in color, sables, blacks, bi-colors ect.  these dogs generally stand squarer on all 4's.
showline dogs are generally your blk/reds with more angulation in the front and rear.

working lines dogs are normally higher drive, showline dogs tend to be medium to lower drive.
this is just generalizations though, not all working lines are high drive and not all showlines are medium to low drive.

these are my dogs:

JimmyH1 - I applaud your efforts.  It's ok to ask stupid questions...they are better than dealing with stupid mistakes...and besides...there really are no stupid questions so don't hold back because you are afraid someone will jump down your throat.  Good luck on your search for a new dog.  Unless you plan on showing your new dog or working it you might want to consider another rescue.  There are lots of GSDs that need a forever home.  Unless you intend to get into breeding what does it matter about the bloodlines?  Just stating my opinion for what it's worth.

If you live in the USA you will have plenty of Guys to guide you through the maze of breeders and the way things go over there where you live, once you have sorted through the pedigree bloodlines, just ask and they will be sure to help you out
But you too can be sarcastic in your replies reading your above post, so if the Cap Fits
Never the less do not be afraid to ask, they will always help a newcomer

Jimmy, I don't think you're a troll! And probably that comment was for the OP.  And you should go ahead and post your topic!

You will get some good help, from some good PEOPLE, right here!  You are doing the right thing, everyone on this board loves it when they hear you are into researching the breed first, before bringing the pup home.

Nice to meet you!

Well welcome Jimmy,

Ya gotta know there are plenty of trolls to go round.
It was a sorta troll trap anyway, my remarks.
But hey !   I don't mind saying I'm wrong.   You'll just have to get used to the place.
As for pedigrees don't just go by whats on paper, see the dog and its sire and dam if you can before buying, ask lots of questions.   And don't try to buy quality, prices are decieving.
Working or show is a hot topic sometimes.   The main thing is what are you looking for in a GSD.  It makes a difference.
Health makes a really big difference also.
Start with a pup since you have a nine year old dog now, it will go smoother than bringing home and older dog.

Looks like your already getting some good help here, see............. told ya you would.   Now if someone does give you a hard time don't take it personal.  It happens.
There are good folks here to take up the slack.
I'm Brent, nice to meet you.

Thanks for the help . It is a little bit over whelming trying to figure out all the blood lines and the differences between them . Then to try and figure out what's the difference  SV , SZ , LOSH  all the other abbreviation's for the different country's , blood lines , titles etc. are and what they mean can be to much for me . For now I still need to read I guess . Carson try again . If your having as much trouble as me trying to figure all this out  , I guess wait and ask when your ready .             Jimmy

Jimmy,
First and foremost, what will you do with this dog?
Pet and companion?
Sports, Schutzhund, protection?
Show ?
Breed?
Also there are some sites that explain the titles and abreviations if I can find you a good one I will.
Moons.
