Sunsilver

Oh yeah, the other thing that raised my eyebrows...

Star has an umbilical hernia. I asked him if he could tell if it was the inherited kind. (Remember, we just had a discussion about this on the PDB a week or so ago.)

He said no, there was really no way of telling.  (NOT TRUE, according to what was posted in that thread!)

Then, he felt the hernia, and said it really wasn't a true hernia at this point, just a bubble of fatty tissue that had gotten trapped underneath the skin at the umbilicus.  He felt sure it wouldn't cause a problem if I wanted to breed her, and said it could easily be reduced any time she was under a general anesthetic.  (This is true, it does seem to be just a 'bubble' of fatty tissue. I just wanted an expert opinion on it, as I'd forgotten to ask about it the other times I'd had Star at the vet.)

The only way to know for sure would be to look at other littermates and other litters by both parents.

Here's the link that talks about the inheritable type. It can be quite serious:

A standard stitch I would trust my regular vet to, but not the surgery. I had Shar Pei for years, and only had one incident and it was mild enough to only stitch. I had 2 that needed the surgery. Good luck and Good that you caught it early. Tea bags work believe it or not
