Good luck, but they are still very young to be worrying a lot about "stay"

Train them separate and you do have a bit of a difficult road.

Makes my teeth hurt just to think of training four puppies.
Hell, makes my whole body hurt to train the ONE I have.
Best wishes to you and your babies. It's a worthy venture.

Oh, my.  Four GSD puppies?    You're a braver person than I.  At the end of the day, though, you know better than anyone what will work for your own household and how much you can take on, so good luck to you!

I've found it easiest to teach my dogs to stay by starting out with a sitting position.  Give the command, hold your hand palm-out, and slowly back up.  Stop moving and have him sit again (and again and again) every time he starts to follow.  As soon as he lets you back up at all, release him and give him praise and a little treat (if you're using treats).  Start backing up a little bit more each time, and always praise him for waiting to be released.  As he gets the hang of staying when you're a short distance away, start walking farther out, turn your back on him, walk in circles around him, and leave his sight.  It's nothing special...a very basic technique that I'd be willing to bet you've tried already.  Their trouble with staying could have more to do with their youth than the training methods.
