My 2 year old grandson slept in his first big boy bed with 2, who never left his side. Not a sound from any of them. Ha

Quote:  Would you allow your ruff and tuff working line dog to jump in bed and sleep with your grandchildren?

Every fucking last one of them. I don't have any grandchildren, but I would trust every damn one of them.

I belive in judging dog on individual basis, this apply to SL as well. If I see a good one I always note that. People tend to generalise when they say that WL are so over the top that they don't make good pet's at the same time, so far all of my WL were good pet's. Same I seen decent SL in my life, but even those SL that I liked were being wasted away by runing in a circle and look preatty, and I belive for a working dog (GSD's) it such a shame.

The only thing I have to say on this one.......

Just because a dog is a Police Service Dog does not automatically make them a strong dog. In many cases it is just the opposite.

Unfortunately there are many, many certified police dogs out there that have no business doing the job.

as has  been said before, and will be said again,,,,,,

1-  few and far between,,, we had this talk on the american shepherd thread also,,, sure you can find one, but its like looking for diamonds blindfolded.

2-  not one that he ever met.  not to say the dog doesnt exist,  he just never met them.    i never met a dog who can open the fridge, get me a beer, open it, and bring it to me without spilling it.  doesnt mean one cant, but i never seen one.

why must everyone take everything said hear so personal and to the exteme?  people here must be a real bitch to work with.

your dog is great and mine is better.  the sooner you all realize this, the sooner we can all get along.

I've given up on the whole argument tbh. People will only believe a SL can work when they see it with their own eyes. So rather than waste my time with the "SSDD" I think I'll devote my time to working my SL dogs so people can see what they're made of. If the other SL lovers follow suit, then we'll be getting the respect we think we deserve, won't we? As the bumper sticker says, "shut up and train".

jletcher, where are you from? Do you do decoy work? I'd like you to take a few bites from my old girl sometime.

"Would you allow your ruff and tuff working line dog to jump in bed and sleep with your grandchildren?"  This foolish statement is from you gouda.

All of my rough and tough working line dogs love children.  Nieces, nephews, friends kids.  All are fine and safe with my big tough dogs.  Nephew lost his fear of big dogs because of mine, he would throw his arms around my big tough male and give him huge hugs.  Every night two of mine are sleeping in the bedroom.

Kc,,,, i train in kansas.   tornado alley schutzhund club.  yes i do helper work, certified helper (or certifiable as some say).

http://www.tornadoalleyclub.com/john.html

i know first hand that there are showline dogs that can do the work.  i helped one club member with her sch3 bitch, and i also cut my teeth on a "in your face" showline male.   the part that chaps my glutous maximus is when people with showlines talk, but fail to walk.

Working bloodline GSDs are well known to be fine around children, all ages, shapes and sizes. Mine is no exception.

When he was about 7 months old, we stayed with friends in Austin, TX. I took him for a walk at some field. Little did I realize till I got right there, it was elementary school park/playground adjacent to the school. It was around 1 PM and as luck would have it, it was a lunch break. 100 kids running around everywhere, so we were kind of trapped. Age, I'd estimate around 8 to 10.

The teacher(s) shot me a silent glance, I nodded and smiled.

A command: Sit.
Second command: Easy.

All the kids formed a friggin' line, one by one, no crowding - teachers took care of that and they took turns petting him one by one. It was a nice break for everyone. A few braver ones would toss him his ball, but the kicker is, he'd retrieve it to me. One brave kid even played a little tug of war with his puppy tug. Then, as the teachers pleaded with me with their eyes, some order had to be restored and we went on happily for a walk.

As far as adults go, it's on the other hand, on "case by case" basis.

As far as your question, sleeping with the grandchildren, I don't get the question. Why not? What do you think would happen? The dog will bite the grandchildren? Nonsense.
