Yes, we have a lot of 'freedom'. We have the right to work, if we can find a job, pay taxes, do what we're told, and shut up. We have the freedom to own a home, as long as we pay the taxes that such a privilege comes with. We have the freedom to drive down the road, provided we pay for insurance, car and driver licensing, and follow all the laws that govern said road. Some of us still have the right to own a gun, provided that it conforms to what is legal, under the laws currently in effect, it stays in full view of God and everyone, or we have a concealed permit.
When we have soldiers training on city streets, it begs the question: What are they training for? With all of the economic trouble, so many people losing all that they have, and desperation becoming about all that most families feel these days, I wonder what is expected by the military. Are they expecting the next American Revolution?
This national state of depression (financial and emotional) that we are falling into is pushing too many over the edge. There are no industries that are not hit by the present state of affairs. And it cannot be blamed entirely on the Republicans, either. The Democrats had a hand in it, too.
Our country is in debt, deeply, and it's only getting worse. Obama promises tax cuts, along with his hundreds of billions of dollars in 'stimulous' funding. If they bankrupted every American, they couldn't begin to cover the debt.
Obama promised he'd pull troops out of Iraq. Not only has he made no attempt to do so yet, but he's planning to send tens of thousands more troops over to Afganistan. And then there's his Secretary of State, Hillary Clintion, promising 900 million dollars to help rebuild Gaza. Isn't that just like the politicians to rob their own people? When Americans can't afford to eat, let them pay to rebuild the sand castles of a crumbling country, a country that has never stood on its own feet and never will. Apparently Americans aren't yet willing to say no more, but it's coming soon.
God Help the USA.

You know, I might just be a dumb soldier out to kill US citizens -- but my unit goes out like that fairly regularly for training purposes and PT around the city of Charlottesville. My ROTC did stuff like that on a regular basis as well...in and around Blacksburg.
Full combat gear my hiney -- the first picture shows a guy with a patrol cap and a fleecy, and half of them don't even have weapons. It's probably just a road march for their PT. You should come down to Virginia Tech -- you'd see the cadets looking exactly like on a regular basis.
I'll have to find some pictures of the Army 'patrolling' the campus of VT.

Stop spreading paranoia. Wait until Obama tries to re-interpret the second amendment. In the meantime, stock up on ammo before we get Obamafied! This guy is stupid enough to push the people to revolution.
By the way, rbud.rm, the National Guard is run by the individual states not the federal government. Those were state soldiers at Kent State. what they did was wrong as hell but try not to offend us federal soldiers.

So you would rather see your citizen soldiers not train? Not be fit? Because it's pretty hard to do that in our Armories...we usually have two or three units in a Gym sized building in the middle of a town or city. It's a training exercise or PT -- it's not a battle movement, it's not a deployment, it's not a mission and they're not doing it on the behest of the president.
And the National Guard is primarily owned by the state, their Gov. and their TAG. And they frequently fullfil stateside missions...for example -- several units were activated by their TAGs for Hurrican Katrina....on US soil.
Raymond -- at VT we frequently went out in the community for PT on road marches with our Rubber Ducks (which look exactly like a real M-16....just parts of them are filled rubber). The reason being that :
1. There is a way to properly hold the weapon while on patrol, and it's pretty taxing
2. Road marches are hard...and there harder when you have a heavy 3 foot thing keeping you from swinging your arms.
3. SAWs weigh a great deal -- and when overseas your going to have to wear all this gear all the time. It takes quite a bit of conditioning to be able to move for any distance with it on.
Though...PS...like I said -- most of these soldiers arent even in full battle rattle and half of them dont even have weapons.
Additionally, when I was in ROTC, we would take these same ducks out on campus so we could learn Battle Movements and Urban Operations and movement. It's how we trained...because Blacksburg, like Charlottesville, doesnt have a base nearby.
