Mystere

Thanks!  So, your goal is to establish a working line of white gsds?   Good for you!   I wouldn't call that a "weakness."   What bloodlines are you using ?   Do you  actively train with a schutzhund club and have you found support there?

Mystere -- I'll send you a PM so I dont drag the thread off topic....when I talk about my dogs (as GARD probably already knows...) I can be quite loquatious.

Alright I will give this a try....

Positives....
1. Good at teaching motivational obedience

2.  Good at teaching tracking

3.  Good at training dogs on detection dogs---- narcotics and bomb work

4. Good at helping people with problem dogs

5. Good at reading dogs.

6. Enjoy learning and reading pedigrees on dogs

Weakness....

1. Sometimes I expect to much out of a young dog

2. Dont like getting up to go tracking....but enjoy it once I am up and doing it

3. Sometimes I try to go to fast in training obedience and tracking.

4.  Will work a dog too long trying to fix a training error and have the dog loose focus and drive.

5.  Not good at positioning myself and dog for the side transport.....BUT got it right at last training...hehe

6.  Sometimes get frustrated quickly

Ok..here's for me:

Positive:

- I'm an Alpha Bitch!
-Very good at reading a dog
-Good in picking prospect
-Interested in every aspect of the GSD (love them all)
-Learn quickly -interested to learn
-Stubborn (is that positive?)
-Likes handling and in pretty good shape..

Negative:

-Get bored quicly (needs results)
-Impatient
- Stubborn LOL
-Is not an early person so tracking is much less fun.
-Not a good owner for a too soft dog.

I'm sure there are other things too..

My strengths and weaknesses are close to others

I too am not near the trainer I wish I was and my dogs deserve
(they also believe I am a better trainer and human being that I really am)
I wish I could maintain that wonderful calm quiet voice a lot more often than I appear
to be capable of (and am always envious of when others do it, how do you guys do it?)
I was training as a decoy until both knees blew while at the department so I guess I am
not as well versed in the hands on part of decoy work as I want
I have still so much to learn about dogs and training (always manage to have a few of
those Homer Simson duh moments during the week)
Hate getting up early in the morning for tracking (o-dark-thirty sucks)
Not get so frustrated when things don't go as I planned
I am good at figuring out what a dog needs, training wise
I will protect my dogs to the n-th degree come what may, no one hurts my dogs
I am good at teaching dog handlers/owners what to do for their dogs and with their dogs
I am very good at picking out potential working dogs from litters and other places
I am good at reading most dogs' body language and signals though some breeds
are still difficult for me (so I guess I need more practise with those breeds)
I am what is commonly referred to in the department as a training whore or knowledge
slut, I always want to learn more (about dogs and training)
That is what I can think of right now.................

I can't comment about that GARD, but I will say that any that do not read the thread on the Senate Bill 250 by angusmom, especially those that  live in Ca. need to take their head out of the sand.  All of these topics will mean NOTHING if we have our rights taken away by the animal activist groups that have an agenda to destroy our breed and all breeds.  This will be the end result of their efforts.

I will be more than happy to explain it to any one too dense to get it, or for those that give their money to these groups. GARD, you should no as well as any what this is about.

I kind of dread tracking too.   :)

Though I've grown to like it a bit more.     I like watching my dogs run the track, but not exactly fond of laying the track!
