Who is training for   BH?

If RAYMOND IS  training for BH   , I did not know that      Forget what I posted then....I was not told in this that we were doing a BH

I would do things differently , then...so scratch
SORRY ,,I WAS TEACHING BASIC   LONG DOWN  FOR HOME AND FUN......

SORRY BUT NOWHERE DID I SEE   WE WERE DOING A ROUTINE...BUT   UNTIL THE DOG LEARNS STAY YOU DONT DO ANY ROUTINE LIKE GOING BACK TO HIS SIDE ...NOT UNTIL HE LEARNS WHAT BLIEB MEANS...

"my Schutzhund trainer just wanted to combine the blieb and platz to platz"

The reason for this is that you only get to say PLATZ on trial day. So the dog should understand that the command to PLATZ means stay in the down until otherwise told. So you can either not use BLIEB to start with or you'll just have to faze it out.

Somone also mentioned "yank and crankers" using a pinch collar. You will have to correct the dog for disobedience, breaking the down, either with collar corrections or whatever but not at this stage in training. Sounds like your dog is just starting out so no heavy corrections. Your dog has to learn the exercise fully before you use the collar...

No problem with using the pinch to train, I don't like people tying the dog to the ground with the pinch on unless it is really needed in the case of a really hard headed dog.   The dog basically "pinches him or herself" .   Another reason to have someone experiened to help out.

I teach this exercise as a NO drive event. This is done at home while watching TV, reading, eating or playing on the computer. I put the young dog in a down once he knows the command. Your voice is quiet and firm. If the dog attempts to get up I will say no and put him back in the proper place. Occasionally I will say with a quiet  neutral voice "good platz." A few minutes at first is all that is required as in any exercise success is the greatest learning tool. I will quietly break off the platz with a whispered O'kay that he knows is a finished exercise release. I will ignore the dog for at least a few minutes so no loading or anticipation builds. Now tell him he is a great boy and pay him with play or whatever your dog needs to feel good. When I have this at 30 minutes or so I will take it to the field and add many distractions. You will probably need one good correction here to finish the down. To finish the exercise and build drive where you want it you will pick the dog up and heel at least 5 paces and sometimes many more before breaking and playing with the tug or ball. Once again I will state this is the only exercise in the sport where you need no drive.

Yes, from what I remember, the handler does return to the dog (with dog on left and turns to face same way as dog) while the dog remains in a down, handler then has dog sit and reattaches the leash (of course I could be misremembering, it was a while ago and I only did Schutzhund for a short time).

I do blieb and platz seperately due to how my first two dogs where originally trained. I have since combined the sitz/blieb to sitz, platz/blieb to platz, I also teach the blieb command as a stay command for staying where the dog is, he can sit, down or whatever is comfortable as long as he doesn't budge from the spot. I also teach a "stop" command with hand out like you would do to stop somebody from running in front of a moving bus, this means freeze, don't move a muscle. Usefull for dangerous situations (my dogs know both word and signal, though I am still working out the kinks with one dog). I also use a german command for an unoffical lay down, this means get comfortable but lay down, can move around comfortably but stays within a section about the size of his crate. Used for company or just to get them to leave me alone and go lay down in their special spots (each dog has his/her own spot in each room).

I make sure the concept is well understood before I start to use correction but I still have those "smart dog/dumb handler" moments when I am reminded that I am still learning and probably will be the rest of my life

Yes, a very good practice is to while you are watching tv...draw a rectangle on the rug or floor somewhere and put your dog in that rectangle every time you are spending some time in the recliner, and expand your time from 5 mins  to 8 to 10 t0 15 and on and on...good time for quiet time and watching dad.
Focus on the stay and in the proper position, also.
