'Hunting Editor Andrew McKean received these 2 amazing photos with a vivid description of what must have been one of the wildest coyote hunts ever. Here is the note that came along with it…

“The picture is for real and so is the story.
Aaron's friends were checking snares around Geraldine and decided to stop and call in a spot. One had a .204 and a .22 pistol. The other had a camera.
They called for 15 minutes and brought in the pack of coyotes that they couldn't see until they were 20 yards away. The shooter shot twice with the .204 rifle as the coyotes closed in. The dogs didn't know where to go and were jumping around, barking, etc. By the time he made the second shot they had moved in to 10 yards and he couldn't see anything but hair in his scope, so he put the rifle down and grabbed his sidearm. He stood up and started firing into the pack of jumping dogs. The picture makes them look like they're charging but they were just bouncing around trying to figure out what to do. The shooter emptied his sidearm and managed to get a bullet into each coyote.
Pretty wild.”

First time I ever heard of coyotes going after a human. They must have been really starving. He didn't have to kill them all. Looks like the whole pack is wiped out. :-(

It's just the hair guys, they are fluffy, look at the damn snow. Brrr, they look just like that here, the ones I have seen anyway. Some are as big as my female dog. 65-70ish pounds.

I always thought that they were quite small... where are you please 4 pack?

I've never seen coyotes that big, Ive heard of a few large ones, as large as 75 lbs-state recrods
I think thats the exception rather than the rule

They have a nice coat that makes them look 20 lbs larger than they are.
They will pack up on a dog, any Dog, hamstring him and kill them in a few minutes.

I shoot them on sight though I never liked it. I admire their cunning and instincts greatly. BUT THEY MUST BE MANAGED

Hmmmm... I don't really agree with killing them but I have to say, I don't think I'd be so keen to have a pack or packs of them near me!

I am in Northern California. We have plenty of natural and human made food for them here. I doubt they go hungry often. Around here they like to attack downed cows giving birth. When out riding in the hills and pastures, I used to see sign of them all the time. At night where I lived years ago, when they cried at night, it sounded like a woman screaming and like ther were many, many, maybe 50 or so in that small valley alone. I'd turn the radio on to fall asleep and drown out their sounds. Usually you see them at about 45-50lbs but I have seen alot of big ones hit by cars, so you can pull over and get a good look, and I do.

People like to say they are solitary hunters but I have always seen them packed up when they were after our animals at night or early am.
