Why can't a person buy a dog, raise it, without people interjecting their opinions/values on everything from the breeder to the intent of the owner as  for acquiring the dog...afterall its HIS dog; and we need to have those type of concerns about our own dogs. Mr. Biden is more than capable of preparing a good home for a PET. Dogs are pets, NOT PEOPLE, and if the VP is happy and the dog isn't being mistreated its really none of our business....there is no edict that says that I or he has to raise or acquire my "PET" to meet others standards as long as its lawful and above board in this country...JMO

Here is an article including breeder interview.  Actually, I saw that first, then came to the pdb to see if it was being talked about...

 Gustav,

You are correct.   Having read the interview with the breeder and the k9 cop Biden hired to  find a puppy for him,  it appears that he got exactly what he wanted from a breeder who intentionally breeds for the pet market (which includes Biden):  a nice, healthy, even-tempered, social gsd to be a family pet.

wrong.  Joe Biden is now and has been for 26 yrs a Role Model.  This involves education which he clearly didn't want to do.  Whether he chooses a k9cop to handle this research or a bozo, does not deliver him from responsibility.

I was approached by a k9 handler from Arkansas this year who tried to impress me with his friendship with the governor of AR who was looking for a GSd.  All they were out for was a freebie, which I am sure is what happened here with Biden.  I told the cop here is the link for the website and these are my prices.  Never heard from him again.

Same thing last year, some fairly known Radio DJ from NYC tried to get a free dog from me in exchange for me flying to NYC (at my expense, of course) and being interviewed by him, which was an advertising plot because I kept hammering him for the cost of this 'interview' and he kept avoiding the answer with the typical NY sales pitch, 'Just imagine how many dogs you would sell'.  My reply was, I don't breed that much, nor do I want to.

It is not  honorable to give a dog away to someone who can afford the dog.  Its honorable to give a dog away to someone who needs a great dog.

I am already paying taxes ie their salaries... for the K9 handler and the VP of this country.

Its using a broker what he did.  Research German Shepherd dogs just a bit and he would have landed with top breeders in the USA and Canada, like Bullinger, Wilhendorf or vom Mittelwest.   And they can probably afford to give a truly well bred well thought out pedigreed dog away, without the need for their business.   This is sending the wrong message to the public who now will likely RUN to said kennel thinking they have great dogs.  And they do not, take a good look at the dogs.

"The Bidens ended up at Brown's at the culmination of a weeklong search for an even-tempered puppy" whoopdidoo that was long eh!  pfoei teufel, I have people who have looked for six months, and then land here after they have really done their homework.    But then, I am not impressed with the K9 handlers in this country.  They are lazy at best compared to what one sees in the top police dog trainers of Holland and Belgium.  So that is probably what explains the WEEKLONG search!

And to let a SIX WEEK OLD PUP LEAVE????? what!!!!   There are so many holes in this interview which an experienced GSD breeder AND trainer never would have let happen!

They didn't say anywhere in the article that Biden was taking the puppy home with him that day.  Go back and read the whole article where it says that the breeder will train him over the next few months, THEN will give the dog to Biden.  I'm sure it'll be after the inauguration and settle-in of the families in the White House.  Jeez.

Besides, maybe Biden specified that he wanted an even-tempered dog to the K9 handler?  Not everyone wants a high drive, antsy attitude-y dog, they just want a damn pet who'll be good with their kids and tolerate being around so many different people without flying off the handle.

How would everyone be feeling if he adopted a purebred GSD from a shelter?  Or would that be sending the wrong message also?

A title is something only a human feels is important, and bestows on any number of his fellow creatures.  As long as the dog is healthy, certified and neutered, having a yard-long list of titles for a pet dog is completely unnecessary.

And who says the dog was given away?  I'm sure he paid for it just like one of us would.

I guess I don't get it.  I am excited that he has had GSD experience before--he is getting a nice puppy out of health tested lines, and the whole country --especially us GSD lovers--are going to get to watch this dog become famous and grow up.  He will be loved, have the best of the best and what more could we ask for one of our beloved breed.  What is all this negativity?  If it were one of the breeders on the DB would everyone be so quick to point fingers and dig up all the dirt they could?  I wonder.

Methinks I smell sour grapes...

This elitest attitude is sickening!!!!He wanted a GS puppy, he got what HE wanted and the hell with what you other people think HE SHOULD HAVE DONE. Everybody shouldn't have to research a dog to acquire one, if you want to fine!, but to impose YOUR values on others, regardless of their means or station in life, is elitest bullsh-t!!!
