I have a young male who was first diagnosed with AF at 25mths, that time a high dose of ABs and steroids worked the second time he was 37mths tried the ABs and stroids again it calmed it down but didnt clear it. I used Malesab lotion to clean him after defeacating and within a few weeks the fistula closed and healed.

I am wary of trying Cyclosporin due to using on another dog that had Atopic Dermatitis as with him it caused muscle wastage, nausea, siezure activity, weight loss but with extreme hunger and a vorocious appetite. Once taken off this drug and put on steroids is weight increased, siezures stopped, he gained weight and gained his muscle tone back, and his food intake as reduced to normal.

Niether time my dog as had bouts of AF have the anal glands been infected, prior to the first incidence he had been fed raw from being a pup, for the last 12 mths he has been on a good quality working complete. I regular check him, but normaly know by the other dogs reactions when it is starting again.

Good luck hope you find what works for your dog.

Pam
