Shelley Strohl

Linebreeding yes., but no closer than 3,4 for me anymore thanks. Inbreeding no. The American "specialty" type breeders were rabid for inbreeding for many years. That's peobably why the breed went to hell in the US for so long. I distinctly remember seeing 5 genration pedigrees in the 70's and 80's that had Lance of Fran-Jo (a real shitter IMO) and Cobert's Melissa so many times they should've made up a rubber stamp to save time filling the pedigrees out by hand. to this day any kennel name with an apostrophe (possesive) or a dash between two abbreviated names makes my hair stand up... Raccon's and a few others are notable exceptions of course, but they are not US breeders.

I still think my 2nd cousin (the light of my childhood)  and I would have produced excellent progeny. LOL Like Moons, I am surrounded by neighbors I highly suspect go back at least three generations... with only one "Daddy." Ha ha ha. Welcome to Coal Cracker Country, where anyone from more than 8 miles away is considered a fer'ner.

I wouldn't shy from a 2-3 or 3-2, just all depends on who (Troll v h Milinda would've been nice to have).  I would much prefer a linebred producer to outcross with.

I have a Troll son and if you had a line breeding of that nature you would have alot of Fado And Orry, not saying thats a bad thing.

I wonder if any one has line breed very close on Orry?

i would go 2-3 on something i was really trying to preserve, but would definately go outside the bloodline for the next generation to compensate for any adverse results.

I would do a 1-2 to set type if I had a very good bitch with very good motherlines. Inbreeding is not the problem--breeding blindly is. Outcross won't solve anything if you don't know what's in the dog's genetics anyway.

Inbreeding was used plenty of times in the history of most dog breeds. The trend of outcross seems to only catch up now, and yet why do we have unhealthier dogs?

I found Tyguard Graf  ( 2-3) on Troll vh Milinda.  And one of my favorite females, Jazzmine v Ausland is linebred on Orry.  I would love to see that little Graf now that he is a bit older!

From what I have learned in my genetics classes, anytime you do a line breeding, you run the risk of not only strengthening desirable traits, but undesirable as well. The wider the gene pool, the better the breeding. My own choice is not to line breed.  Besides, I got to make emergency runs on "line bred" families and it was definately interesting
