Mimifield

Yes, i wish, I did just that when i lived in England, but over here in Belgium there is only the King Alfred CaneTHere are no rivers to fish in i have never seen one in the province of Limburg where i live or in Brabant

The only place there is rivers is in the Aardennes which is about 90 kms from my place

We have little gullies but no fish in those, Belgium is a flat country, except for the Aardennes

And in our City there is not one Fishing Tackle shop, So send the fish over to me, blue gil and all, i am not the fussy sort

I feed canned pink salmon and the price as recently gone up !!   I don't use the mackerel because it stink's !!!!

I do sometime's have catch of the day, but I'm not a big fisherman so that's not reliable.

Mainly I only feed fish every other week or so.   Beside's the fact that over fishing is depleating the ocean's, do you know what's in the fish?

I wouldn't eat fish myself more than once a week.

I really don't think the dog's NEED it to be healthy.

I had fed my dogs canned sardine before but now I feed only enteric molecularly distilled fish oil. IMO, if the ancestors of your dogs had never fed on fish, then your dog may not have the natural defense against the parasites of fish. Canned salmon seems to have very high salt content, higher than that of canned sardine. Even I reduced canned salmon in my diet for the high salt content. I eat only wild caught fresh salmon without added salt, when it is in season, more affordable.

hmm that salt thing is important, but you know, raw foods were fround on for a long time, too and still they have the ability to digest it.

But i though fish might be a nice addition to the diet...

I personally like this raw diet, so do my dogs!

Try sardines, they are tasty.

Katk9,

I too feed raw fish to my dog, (I also feed the canned pink salmon). I go to a local fish merchant or sometimes a supermarket were they sell fresh fish nd will gut it for you, I just ask the guy behind the counter for some salmon heads he always givs me a load for free!!! As he says himself he's only going to be throwing them away anyways, pull out the  bit of spine thats sometimes left and your good to go!! my dog loves them!!!!

I feed any type of raw fish (except those from the Pacific Northwest) I can get my hands on to my boys. I also feed them whole (head, guts & fins). I keep a few cans of sardines around in case of emergencies, and they're handy if I'm travelling.

Fish can be expensive. I am fortunate to live in a large city with a large Southeast Asian population so I frequently shop for fish in Chinese marketplaces for variety. I also have a large freezer, so when I get fish at a good price, I stock up. Karen

These sound like good ideas to sources, too bad we don't have a fishmarket arround, but maybe I can find some die hard fishermen arround, that have too many fish...*g* I had an offer n the summer, but at this point I wasn't thinking that far, that i might have just freeze the fish for the puppers.

Next time i will remeber... But I am glad to hear that I don't have to worry about the innerds and the fishbone, though i might gut the fish, you never know what they ate...lol...
