Decades ago. There were videos  at the local Video store back then..haha.They were tapes to be rented to watch actual death in so many ways.I did rent one..watched a bit and concluded that most were being held hostage just for the killing.Made me sick!!!All of this type is probably underground now.As well as the sex slavery industry.Very deep subject. It is sorrowful that this young man had to do this, there are so many that do....that are unseen...or heard of.The statistics of teen suicide..early twenty's has been suppressed by the media for many years.Just my two cents.

I cannot believe the thought of people not helping him. He cried for help many times, plotting his own demise.  Another thing is the SICKNESS of people watching. I am sorry but i am in EMS and see people die or dying almost everyday, it still makes my heart wrench EVERYTIME. And it has been 10 years. I believe that also the sickness is the people who posted his suicide note. Why would you do that. I guess we now see what our world has come to.

Moons- I am totally agree with you, Mental Health is exploited and those who need it don't usually get the help they need.

people have ignored or even incouraged suicides probably since the first one. public executions were treated as a break from one's hard daily routine. people yell "jump" to those on ledges or bridges. public punishment was a source of amusement. some people are good and have compassion for others and some people enjoy the tragedy (as long as it isn't them). the world has never been any better or worse in this regard. we just hear about it more. some people don't want to get involved anymore because of possible litigation issues.  with the internet, people can be anonymous in their bad behavior. no groundbreaking news, just more exploitation of the ugly side of human beings.

For one, this guy had a history of threatening to commit suicide, that is why the bodybuilding site started ignoring him.

Second, the teens who were online in the live chat room with him more than likely didn't believe that he was serious.  They had never met the guy in person, so they had no idea that he meant business this time.  This kid was the one to post his own death on the internet, he had to have known that some would view it as entertainment.  Most of the kids watching him had never experienced death before, much less watching someone overdose on their anti-depressant meds.  Even those who were making fun of him, I'm sure that knowing that they watched someone commit suicide will haunt them.

Don't judge the kids in the chat room, they were ignorant of the seriousness of the situation.

This wasn't barbaric by any means.  The Games at the Roman Coliseum were barbaric, armies conquering cities, raping the women and slaughtering the children is barbaric, but this would fall along the lines of apathetic.

It sounds like once the moderator was notified, they tried to contact authorities.

What is far sadder to me is that this young man's family, whom he lived with, had no idea about his state of mind.  If he had threatened suicide before they should have helped him develop a plan of who to call for help if he felt that way again.  He was obviously getting some sort of treatment if someone was prescribing the meds - I would be interested to know if the psychiatrist actually followed up with him or just wrote a script and shoved him out the door.

There are probably quite a few people that will carry guilt with them for a long time because they didn't step in to help him, but it's hard to know if it would have helped.  It sounds like he had been troubled for a while.

In real life I'm almost finished with my graduate degree in counseling.  If anyone reading this is having trouble, you can call this number for help:  1-800-273-TALK (8255) - it's the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.

I hate week people; people that choose to end their life are cowards, nothing else. If you think I will sorry for a person like that you got another thing coming. I rather reach out to people that are still fighting even though they are put in tough situations, people that choose not to give up, people that choose to fight to the last breath; those are the people that count.  And like moon’s said you don’t like this world check out and at least doing that have some dignity. Doing it over a web cam just prove how big of coward you are, and how pathetic representation of the human breed.  And yeah you might think that I am an A-hole but at the end of the day it dose not matter because I still like what I see in the mirror.

What I said was what I have told others contemplating suicide,

If your unhappy, don't like whats going on,   Change it!

Somehow find a way to change whats going on.  This is the hardest thing to do.  This means get some help!

Or leave, move on, run if you have to!  But go somewhere else and get away from what hurts you, start over.

Mostly, do not give up !    Once you flip the switch and the light's go off. it's over.

Some people just want it to be over, this is the easy way for a few.   For whatever reason some people just don't have the strength to go on.   Some people can be helped, others not.

As much as I hate to see animal's suffer,  it's different with people.    I can feel it.   You might not understand that.

As far as someone choosing death for logical reason's thats none of my business.   They are not coward's.

The holiday's are a time when many people can be sad and lonely, lost.  Or be plagued with problem's or painful memories.   Maybe we could open our eye's and see them hurting and offer some compassion, a little kindness, a little understanding.

Be good to each other.

Moon's.
