I have looked at a few different sites on this and there are many photos of Germans Shepherds pulling carts, sulky's, and scooters, and they all seem to be enjoying it fine. I know my dogs will enjoy it, they love a challenge, and with two of them it will be a blast! I just hope no one throws a ball out in the road!!! lol I will be a goner! LOL I have looked at the scooters too, and they seem like a lot of phone too. I just think the whole concept sounds like fun, and something else to enjoy with your dogs.

I had a friend back in middle school he had a dobe that he tough to pull him on a bike (on a bike not scooter) Both him and the dog enjoyed it a lot. He did went down on his face like 10 times before they learned to comunicate with each other but his dobe was the best ripped dog you could dream off. (BTW theye were quick like a MF) lol

Oh yeah and I am planing to condition my new bitch once she gets older by teaching her how to pull a bike. I think is a great work out, and it would be hard to find anything better to fully work the dog.

I used to have a mini horse that pulled a cart! OMG! That was so much fun, and all of my dogs are bigger than he was, and we had way too much fun with that set up!!!! LOL
I think it is a great way to get your dog in ship shape! I can see my boy now all buff and fine looking! LOL

OT.. But I want to teach.Hopefully.Im trying real hard to not cause a stir in this thread. My love used to be yrs ago standard horse sulky racing.June weller was the first woman to compete...Then Bea Farber. To cut it short..I learned alot.First of all for those that are building sulkies for their dog.good job for trying to have fun and be creative But don't forget your dog.A sulky built should Not be just wheels etc and simple harnessing. The picture OMG..with the purple harness and the one in someones living room..sickens me.Long ago there were straight sulkies and modified sulkies. The harnessware would adjust to either.....and there was balance.First and foremost...The animals happiness and enjoyment has to come first and no owner not pressing too hard for their enjoyment sacrificing the individual.

Justk9, neat set-up! Handsome dog with great pigment! I guessing that wagon wasn't cheap. Have you competed for a DD title? Just wondering if 4 wheeled cart is acceptable for competition in your area?
Rainhaus: I completely agree that you can't just slap any harness on a dog and drag anything with wheels. I had a similar warning in my post. My cart is properly balanced and the harness is properly fit, in fact custom made for the dog. Perhaps your post just reads more harshly than intended but I'm not sure what would 'sicken' you. I'm sure you read all my comments this before responding but as I explained earlier...I'll give you the dog was unsure but the photo was taken the VERY first time he was placed in the cart, my bad. I should have taken more time in introducing the cart. So you figured it out, I'm not perfect! Since by posting the photo I have invited comments and in the interest of learning, please do explain what is wrong with my setup?

Ocoey,
The wagon was purchased from Tractor Supply, and remodified by a friend that owns my dogs sister. He does sledding with his German Shepherd and Husky. I will have him send pictures of his dogs, he just attended a seminar in Tahoe.
This was Rookies first day with THAT wagon, he had only pulled a few times before, but more of a flat bed type wagon. He was a bit nervous as I kept telling him to stay, and I think he was feeling my nervousness. We took a carting class, he was measured and fitted for the cart and harness, and the four wheels is a lot more stable and easier to pull than two wheels, it has better balance.
I walk him in parades with one of my Corgi's riding in the wagon, beleive me he is pretty proud of himself when there is a crowd. He gets lots of attention and he loves it.
