Bob - That' s my rule!  When I can see my own ribs, I cut their rations.  Until then, we are all imperfect.

By 7 months, my female pup was getting 5 cups of Performatrin Large Breed premium puppy kibble a day. I took her to a handling class, and the instructor said she was 'too skinny', so I upped the food to 6 cups!  WOW! That was a LOT of food! No way was I switching her to adult food until her metabolism slowed down. And no, it wasn't the fault of the food. I've fed Performatrin for years, and have no complaints about the quality. Our local franchisee (now retired, blast it!) said she fed all her dogs Performatrin, and she and her huband had been breeding and showing Golden Retrievers for over 30 years!

Star had her first heat just past 1 year of age, and there was a dramatic change in her metabolism and her appearance after that. I knew it was time to make the switch. Now, she is getting about 2 cups of Performatrin Super-Premium Large Breed Adult food, 2x a day. My 75 lb. male gets slightly less than she does, but she's more active, despite her smaller size.

So, yeah, it depends a LOT on the individual dog.
