alex,
I've never seen a dog turn down an egg, and it will make the coat shine. So will other thing's.
Don't make drastic or sudden change's in diet. And alway's make sure their water is clean and cool, not hot from the sun. plenty of it too.
I mix egg with dry food and add a little water to help the mix, I add all kind's of thing's at different time's in small amount's just to add a little variety to meal's. Egg's, veggie's, cheese, canned salmon, meat's and even canned soup.
Mine like to munch on carrot's and some fruit's and heaven forbid I sometime's give them table scrap's, no bread, nothing spicy, mostly watered down just to add flavor. My dog's get bored with their food sometime's or they don't feel like eating due to heat I think, I don't see it in the winter time. Sometime's it take's a few week's but I can see them either gaining or looking thin. I don't over feed, they need to be fit. Not too lean, but definately not fat. I may let them get a little heavier in winter to fend off the cold.
Now feeding is not enough, he must have excercise to grow muscle and a GSD need's it anyway for other reason's.
My dog's are outside most of the time, I have two who come in at different time's and they all come in once in a while but you must be careful about taking them in and out of A/C, same way with heat in the winter. It's hard on them.
So... a little more food, some extra's, and more excercise. Feed of an evening if it's hot and give him time to get used to being outside, in a couple of week's see if you can tell a difference. Use a scale.

This is Maddy,
You'd see the similarity better if she was facing you.

Alex,
I think you have a very handsome boy there, but it can be difficult to judge proper weight from a picture.
I will tell you this, I like my dogs on the lean side as well, and I have been feeding Canidae All life too. My male was doing really well on it, but I have noticed that sine they changed the formula, he has lost weight and his coat is not as good as it was. I will be switching after this bag. My wholistic food store said there is a food Versa(?) which is very similar to the old formula of Canidae. I think I will try that.
Beautiful boy you have!

brent,
Gorgeous Maddy! I do see the similarities!!!! how old is she? she looks bigger than Sultan or i'd say hmmm thicker, fuller.
Gilma (asnwering for Alex!!!)
Theresa,
we haven't noticed any changes with Canidae, what's the name of the food you will be substituting for your dog?
thank you!

I think it's called "Versa" or something similar to that. It is made local to me (Maryland), so I am not sure about availability elsewhere.

Gilma,
Maddy will be three in December, she has maintained her weight at 75 pound's since 14 month's.
Actually right now she's a bit light, they don't eat as well in hot weather, also she is coming into season now.
She run's off a lot of calories as she is on guard duty over night and very active.
Maddy's line's are not as impressive but honestly she is the smartest dog I've ever owned, It's hard to explain. She has great drive's but not as intense as Indy, she is the alpha bitch with a capitol B ! Very dominant, protective, and absolutely fearless, yet she's a sweety and well manored.
When Indy get's OFA'd and if everything else pan's out I will breed the two of them.

One thing he appears that he is going to be alittle narrow chested which will give the appearance of being thin. Still should fill out some but IMO he likely will always be somewhat narrow.

brent,
Maddy is 75 pounds? Sultan is 80 something and i see him skinnier than maddy. oh btw, we already added on more cup of food so now he's intake is 5 cups a day and 1 cup of ground beef. so hopefully he looks a bit fuller. or maybe he's like that because he still a puppy. (he's only 8 months)
question. How come female GSD are more fearless and more aggressive. a couple of months we got a female GSD , Nathaly and its amazing how differently they are. total different personalities. Sultan is such warm hearted, soo innocent dog oppose to Naty (lol) she's soo dominant (like you mentioned), she must have the toy and she wont leave Sultan alone until she has that toy! super jealous, as soon as she sees Alex being affectionate with Sultan, she comes over to grab Alex's attention. also very proctective, she cannot hear another dog barking because she starts running all over the patio trying to find out where the barking is coming from lol. but she's very loving aswell. but its amazing how they are, totally different and my honest opinion, it should be other way around, the male dong being aggressive and protective, I assume.
Here's a pic of Naty and tell me what you think of this cutie.
she's way thicker than Sultan.
my gorda (chunky) Naty!

A&G,
Your dog's look great, these are better picture's than the first three for color.
Don't worry about it too much as they have a lot of growing up to do. As far as the male - female thing, male's mature slower and keep in mind difference in bloodline's maybe. They all will have different personality's and behavior, you have to look at each one separately, it's as complicated as raising kid's sometime's.
I have one black female (Midnite) who Maddy dominate's so badly I feel sorry for her, she can't take a step without Maddy's consent. I have to give her special time alone to play and run in peace. My black male Max is almost two now but he's still just a big goofy puppy inside, but he's the most obedient of them all. Maddy will hold onto his collar and drag him around the yard like she's taking him for a walk..lol. Indy is just nut's !! He want's to be in the center of everything and think's it's all about him, he aggravate's the other's endlessly just wanting to play.
All these little behavior's are constantly changing as they grow and mature and circumstance's change, it's an ongoing process. It's pack behavior and they all will have a different niche in the pack.
BTW, Dog's will look heavier sitting down than they will standing, Sultan is much handsomer in these picture's and the little one Naty is for sure a cutie. You should think ahead now as to how you will handle her coming into heat the first time.
That will be fun...LOL And are you doing obedience training with them?
Brent.
