I had a vet tell me about using liquid dish soap to get the ticks to back themselves out. She also told me that if you put Frontline on them and they've already gotten an engourged tick they tic will die and just fall off.
I can honestly say in all the years I've had animals I had never had a problem with ticks. I have never even seen what an engourged tick looked like until this year. I've found 2 tics on my female just last week that were engourged and also 1 engourged tic on my younger male a few months ago. My sister in law is a vet tech so shecan get them out and get me the antibiotics but honestly after watching how they get them little suckers I can do it myslef.
I just think they are really bad this year everywhere.

I would tell the owner's to use nematodes on their property if they are that infested with ticks. This is an all natural thing and is not harmful to people or animals, but will kill off the ticks. I sprayed the nematodes down in my yard last summer, and have had no tick problems yet, and I live in the middle of the woods. I would also kinda question why they let their dog get that infested, and thin? Sorry to bring this up, but I am curious why they let it go to where their dog got infested that bad.

My guess is he is an outside dog and they don't touch him all over daily looking for abnormal bumps and such. Poor guy. At least the owners are aware and willing to fix the problem with a vet and exterminator. I'm sworming with flies here but thankfully haven't seen a flee or tick in years! I have my yard treated but a couple years ago when I would take the dogs to the park down the street, they would come back covered in fleas, even right after a bath. I used Frontline for a few months and quit, haven't used it since. I can't see paying for it or expossing the dogs to it unless I have to.
In the case of the above dog, I would dip him again. Ouch the alcohol method seems painfull, well anything is probably painful with that many things sucking off of you! Shandra, what area is this?

Hi ya'll
Dog went to the vet today, tested him for tick borne diseases and he came back neg. They also tested him for heartworms, and internal parasites and all that came up is some tapes.
THe dog is an inside outside dog, they pet him but not in a searching way, They are from New Jersey, city folks, she had never seen a tick and asked me to show her what a flea looked like lol I had a fleabag in for bathing so she got an up close view lol.
They are a really nice family, very concerned with the dogs, the little shihtzu is well groomed and was at the groomer 4 weeks ago in houston, nothing was said about ticks. I pulled 55+ off of him yesterday. SHe said when they found the ticks, they sprayed the dogs down and she said it seemed like they multiplied. The ticks dont appear to have been attached for an extended time, I have had dogs come in with ticks that the area around the tick had crusted and healed they had been there so long, they spots are fresh and red.
The vet gave them Primor for the gsd, frontline for both but said not to use the FL for 3 weeks? I think the owners were confused, I am going to call the vet tomorrow for clarification. I am sure he doesnt recommend waiting 3 weeks to use something to kill the live ticks, every tick I pulled today was alive and well. Spent 3 hours on the underside of the neck and the chest and they were all alive. I sent a fresh sample of ticks with them this morning, a little of each kind that I pulled this morning so they could test or whatever and the vet said they were not infected. I dunno. anyways I did call and ask if I could continue pulling ticks and the vet tech asked the vet, he said yes but not to use anything on him. I am thinking perhaps he did not understand my dips are organic, no chemicals at all and were well rinsed after the appropriate waiting period. This many live ticks..... that needs to be addressed otherwise I am facing a potential infestation of my business, I cant have a walking tick maker dropping ticks everywhere.
