not really,   you may not be aware of the frequncy of animal mishaps that occur in airports or with airlines, but believe me,  these steps aren't meant to soothe an overly worried owner but to keep the dog safe.

Good suggestions above. However, it is important to note that more than 2 million animals travel by air in the US alone each year. The number of incidents including injury, death, illness or escape are very, very few. Common sense and understanding the requirements of the airline one will be using is the best defense against your animal becoming one of the rare statistics. There is a site that documents, as the feds require, certain types of incidents that meet reporting requirements as established by the Animal Welfare Act.
