Stinky, thanks, but I don't rock. I just do my small, very small part. There are others who do as well. Thanks for your post above because it is filled with common sense. For what it is worth, practically weekly I have a chance to sell a dog.  I won't do it because most of the people do not have appropriate home situations for a GSD. They may be a loving family, but there is much more to responsible dog ownership that being a loving family.

I have sold a total of three in my life. That does NOT include the rescues whom I placed for a rescue "fee" as stated above. I hate selling dogs, and many people really should not have a dog, let alone a GSD. This is also a reason I have only bred three litters in my long life despite having some excellent dogs here.

Just for the heck of it, here is one of the emails I received this week:

"I recently move in with my fiancé and her three young kids and my 5 ∏ year old German Shepherd has bitten her and two of her kids just in the past three days. He and I have lived together for more than 5 years and he had never even shown any signs of aggressive behavior in the past. I’m not sure what the reason is, but I can’t risk injury to her or one of her kids. Therefore, I’m looking for a home for Alex. I won’t give him to just anyone and I won’t put him down unless I run out of options. Can you help?

Mike"

You probably don't want to see my response, given the situation.....

Great job Hodie!!! Keep up your good works...heart.StinkyK9, "Due Process" should be when any animal whether it be a GSD or not..when they leave they should be neutered Period!!! A gsd or whatever breed..purebred can still perform. The cycle cannot be stopped unless there is neutering. Many more will just hit a shelter again. What is the comparison in numbers/percentages as to how many purebred dogs vs non purebred dogs neutered before leaving a shelter?I would also like to ask what methods are being utilized in euthanization in each shelter???

Most definitely any rescue pet should be spayed or neutered...for sure!

I think any potential pet owner should be required to watch a video of some of the healthy, vibrant pets that are being euthanized.  To this day I am haunted by a video clip someone sent me.  It was from some kill shelter and dog upon dog upon cat were being brought into the room, the needle inserted, and the life drained out of them before being piled on the other carcasses in the freezer awaiting pick up.   There was one puppy, probably 6 months old who was wagging it's tail with a look of concern in it's eyes...and then it was dead.  It's horrifying to realized thousands of pets are being euthanized every day.  It also makes me sick to my stomach.

Of course, our pets are not the only victims.  Thoroughbred (race) horses for the most part suffer the same fate, although they end up at the auctions and usually to the killers for shipment overseas.  Greyhounds...pitbulls...the list goes on....they all suffer at the hands of man.  Come to think of it, I don't think there is any species that is safe, including our exotics.

ok..time to step down off my soapbox, lol...  and yes hodie, you and others like you Do Rock.  Time to go hug my dog.

I would like to see the response Hodie..perhaps in a way it can be educational.
