We built little ramps inside the whelping box, kept the radio on, hung a plastic 2 liter bottle with stuff in it to make some noise when they'd move it....they had a ton of socialization with my kids holding them, petting them. As they got a little older and had their shots we had them outside in the yard a lot, running around in an outdoor kennel. So they got used to hearing outside sounds like the neighbor's dogs, lawn mowers, fireworks from the 4th of July lol. I'd bring each one in the house to get used to surfaces, sounds of the house on a normal day to day basis of the doorbell ringing, vaccum running....The pups that were with me past the 8 weeks went in seperate crates so I started the crate training and housebreaking in hopes to make things easier for the new owners.
I wanted to try to do all the things I'd want done if I were buying a pup from a breeder.

Go Check out Puppy Prodigies.....totally awesome stuff----labs/goldens turning on/off light switches, sits/downs, recalls, retrieving, tugging open doors, closing doors---all before 8 weeks of age....
http://www.puppyprodigies.com/
They are puppies that are specifically bred for assistance dog work----but nothing wrong with teaching your pups to do that same things at that age!

TheDogTrainer- I bet it'd be easier for me to teach the dog how to turn off lights than these kids of mine. lol If only I could teach one of them to turn off the lights....I'd probably save at least $50 a month on the light bil. LOL

I have to laugh.....I was at a clients the other day, and we were chatting....."Largo can open the fridge and get me a beer"....."And she will close the fridge when she is done!"
"Gee, if you could teach my husband that I would pay you a fortune!"
"Teach him what?.......Getting the beer or closing the fridge door behind him?...."
