Actually, I would send him to Reiner Holtmann in a heartbeat.  I trust him in every way to handle Athos even better than I would myself.  But since he is in Germany and has a young black dog I want puppies from myself, (Bomber) there isn't a chance he'd ask...LOL.

I would probably let Johan Vangerven and Johan Clauwert have him back if they requested it..the people I bought him from, honest down to earth people.  They are in Belgium.  There are a couple of people in our dog club...but they live here...they can bring the dog to me more easily...if they even had a female!  I just had to roll the thought around in my noggin for a moment to come up with names.   Veronica

What about sending your dog to breed a female at a place such as a boarding kennel, or doggie day care center?
Would any of you consider sending your stud dog to a place who has many new, unknown outside dogs coming and going?

by eichenluft on 05 July 2008 - 20:07

As stated already, I for one, and all stud dog owners I personally know - would not send their stud dog anywhere for a breeding, unless I (or the owners I know) went with them.  Out of my possession - no.  In my possession meeting at another location, sure.  In a place where there may be high risk of contamination - probably not (though I would not be leaving my dog in the kennel or day care).

The only exception would be in a friend situation - I have one or two friends who I trust completely and who I would trust with my stud dog (to handle him, handle the female, handle the breedings and care for the dogs properly).  But in 14+ years of owning breeding stud dogs, I have never "sent them" or had them out of my  presence and control - for breeding to females.  As I said, the risk to the stud dog is not worth the stud fee.  Plus, my stud dog is my best friend, he doesn't go anywhere without me, period.

In this day and age its very easy to ship semen fresh express or frozen which would probably be cheaper and far less risky that sending the male anywhere
