How much bitework does he have. Could be a number of things. I always thought the "Stuck in prey" was a bunch of whoey until I started working more shepherds.

I am still not a firm believer. If the fight/defense is there genetically in the dog, it should be there when you tap into it regardless of how much it has been worked in prey.

Be careful with working multiple dogs at the same time. It can work very well. It can cause a big problem in a hurry. The frustration can lead the dog to transfer aggression to the other dogs, then you can end up with dog aggression. It does work and I have done it. You have to know the dog.

It sounds to me like the dog is in prey. Depending on the age and how much work the dog has, I would not worry about it, the dog just needs to be worked more in fight.

Are you working with a trainer? What do they say about it?

I dont get this. When you walk back to the house..he whines in his kennel and you treat him with what?? If a dog is to work they have to work for it!!!At times I will use a 15 ft cotton web rope..2 inches in diameter..frayed at the end.I will drag to see the prey and pick up at the other end with a dog.Once picked up I run the opposite direction to see if the dog can hold.If it isnt a deep grip the dog will let loose. Then start over. The rope is never given until their is a full deep bite and the dog is unwilling to give it up even if the end of the rope is used to tap(haha) on the ribs of the dog or my hand is over the eyes head of the dog while the dog is being in the air at the end. Then the rope becomes a treat in release. But as well..the dog shouldnt become overly defensive of the treat.I am not a trainer but it does sound that your pup needs to be aggitated(sp).

my first thought was how old is this dog? Second was he's locked in prey. I've worked dogs like this, it's as everyone said, frustrate then reward, he needs to learn to bark to make the man move.
