Those pups are so damn cute!  Look at those ears at 5 weeks!!!

I noticed in the last couple of litters I have looked at that the smaller dogs tended to have their ears up first.

At 3 months it's still early.  Make sure the puppy has plenty of toys to chew on.  It's more important to see how the ears are at 4-5 months old.  If they appear weak, you'll want to put them up.  You can check the base of the ear and see if it's firm and if the ear tends to bend in the middle outer portion of the ear.  If it does, you'll want to tape it to hopefully strengthen it.  I've had shepherds whose ears were up at 3 months and never went down, even while teething.  I've had others whose ears go up and down periodically during the teething period and those who need help even after teething so that the ear is "trained" to stay up.  Just relax and enjoy your puppy for now

No ears no dog!!!First of all it is genetic as well as confidence issues in the pack as pups.Yes teething as well.I hope I dont offend anyone that is not my intention. This glueing and taping is ridiculous!!!In ref to teething..put a bowl of ice cubes down if you have a litter or an individual.Often times MOST people in show want the ears to come up immediately to show early.I am not putting down show at all.

I am not in show, and I want those ears up pronto!!   I am not attracted to floppy-earred breeds (Lab pups are cute, granted, that's why they are used in TP commercials and not gsd pups!!) .   I agree with the "no ears, no dog"--it is not a gsd with ears that are not erect. I can even deal with that "Mule Ear" stage some go through, leaning ears and all, as long as they are up!

Now that the ears are up, it is on to sweat the big stuff--hips to be pre-limmed in a couple of months.

3 weeks 4 weeks 5 weeks 6 weeks - up, down till 8 weeks

Baby Pharaoh and his soul brother at six weeks

Baby Pharaoh at 8 weeks (up and down a bit)

12 weeks up rigid and now eating RMB for two weeks and they stopped tipping up and down

4 months 5 months 6 months

This picture was taken 5/21/08, his ears never went up and down from teeting, so far (knock on wood!)

He is now 9 months old - is he done teething or is there more to come?
