makes alot of sense for dogs who have to be in nasty situations. they look a bit silly, but if it saves a dog from injury (esp in the line of duty), silly works....

I believe the Eskimo's have used a sort of leather mochasin for certain weather or ice conditions for a very long time.

Maybe thats where the idea came from.

Yes, Just as certain indian nations that were killed off. The tanning of leather was done with the teeth
