4pack

Blitzen, there is another type.  High Prairie~ Bison, Venison, first 2. I didn't choose the fowl because I feed allot of chicken in RAW form and my dogs already smell like fish from a Trout based food and canned salmon/mackrel. LOL

I haven't seen the bison at Tractor Supply. Will pay more attention next time I have to buy a bag.

Almost forgot the best part, I am not cleaning up buckets of dog hair every day either. He still sheds some, but not nearly as much as he used to.

4pack and blitzen,

I feed raw and I just bought a couple of bags of the fish and one of the bison.

My plan is to continue feeding the main morning meal of a chicken quarter, a cup of defrosted raw ground meat and vegetables (Escel K9 meals) and sometimes an egg yolk. Some days I use defrosted beef tripe (greentripe.com). I used to add canned sardines (water packed, no salt) but I am concerned about the Bisphenol-A in the lining of the can (all cans are lined with Bisphenol-A so they don't corrode).

So, last night I took one cup of the TOTW fish kibble and soaked it in one cup of cool water. My nine month old puppy was very happy with this meal.

Do you soak the kibble?

Got any advice for me.

Thanks,

Michele and Pharaoh

I add some water but I don't let ii soak in. Maybe I should, I've read that's one way to help prevent bloat. Your plan sound good. I might start to give Blitz some RMB's. He does get raw ground beef now and then, but not on a regular basis.

I've fed the fish TOTW since early this year.  I am very happy with how my dogs look.  I am nauseated by the smell of fish, but it doesn't make my dogs smell fishy at all and it doesn't smell when I feed them.

I tried the bison formula for a month or two but my dogs seemed to do a bit better on the fish.  Their fur seemed a little shinier on the fish formula, but it wasn't a huge diffference.

I also recently started supplementing with liquid salmon oil - I had been using capsules, but switched to a pump version and I have to say it's made a huge difference in their coats!  They are much shinier and softer now, they really look fantastic.

Well, Pharaoh loves his evening soaked kibble meal of TOTW fish. I am giving him 1 1/2 cups of kibble soaked in 1 1/2 cups of water overnight.

I also bought the Origen fish and Merrick BG (before grain) Salmon. I plan on getting the Wellness Core fish as well. I want to rotate between brands for his evening fish feeding. So, I bought small bags and I am emptying them into glass and stainless containers.

His coat is glow in the dark shiney but that is not new.

He loves his morning meal of fresh chicken on the bone. For him it is like eating chips, he loves that crunchy, crunch, crunch.

Just in case you are wondering why after all these years I have re-introduced kibble, I will tell you. I had been giving him canned sardines packed in water with no salt and he just loved it.

Unfortunately, I found out about the Bisphenol-A problem and I will no longer use anything in a can (I will make a separate post on that subject). So, I thought about frozen fish from Trader Joes, but, what a complete hassle and expensive.

Then I read some of the posts about the new grainless kibbles and did a little research. So far I am very pleased. Also, this takes care of vitamins and other supplements. His digestive system appears to be very happy although his stools are slightly larger. They do not smell like typical kibble poop, so, not such a big deal. His breath still smells good, no doggy stink.

Using 4 different brands is a little bit of insurance against any bad batch from any one of the brands. Besides, he is used to variety.

Tomorrow evening he will get his first bowl of Origen fish. I am very curious to see how he reacts.

TOTW is a great kibble, at an awesome price.  But, I returned my bag of Pacific Stream, and replaced it with Wellness CORE Ocean.  Diamond refuses to post a public statement stating that their fish products are free of chemical preservatives, and it is also high in calcium.  I like CORE Ocean, higher vitamin E level, low ash content.. and the main protein source is fish.

Anyone notice that their poops are "sticky" with TOTW? Maybe I'm just used to the powdery white poop when on RAW, but I swear the TOTW sticks to the pooper scooper like glue. I checked Tractor Supply here and they don't carry it in my area at all. Oh well looks like I will be switching to Origen since I can get it for a few bucks more than TOTW. Just can't turn that down.

I can't say I noticed that, 4 pack It's probably just the difference in the diet. I'd feed Origen too if I could get it here. I have to mail order it and that's not practical for me plus paying shipping makes it ridiculously expensive.
