Is there a reason you don't crate them? Your dogs would much prefer a crate to being tethered outside...it's like a den to them. When you leave them outside, they're exposed and have no place to retreat to for protection.

Not to be mean but....if I saw a dog tethered here in NC and I knew it was unaltered....I might just cut the tether and take it somewhere safe. Especially for an unspayed female dog! I would have done this to my neighbors' tethered, unspayed female dog if they hadn't been scary drug dealers and I was a little braver.

You can purchase portable kennels from Home depot, I think they still carry them. I got one years ago, wonderful.....

Please don't place your dogs on chains and leave, you are so lucky this time that they did not strangle each other. Next time you will not be so lucky. I would be freaking out also, please use your head. Think of the what  IFS. before you do.

Always,
Cee

Are you seeing a trend here, Smartguy?

I repossessed one here in Texas, a wonderful female , tied to a stake in the weeds by a shack by the railroad track....

My contract has explicit instructions that a dog never be tetered out when alone or for its normal keep..If no kennel or place of abode.., dog will be repossessed...This one I witness someone beating it to make her mean.....She was only 6 mons old when she was rescued....   SAD but left behind was a male dog tied to a stake by a wrecked auto , its dog house, in the weeds by a shack by the railroad track...

Male dog was mean and no one could get to it...Probably still there...Lived in the country with no dog laws no restrictions and a person who I do not know if he  was even sane.. He lived 80 miles from me and lied big time about having a back yard and a kennel for his new pup....

Just a personal question........why is your handle "smartguy"? Tethering dogs all day long unattended is what a "stupidguy" would do.

If you cannot do better for your dogs, give them to someone who can!

The topic of teathering dogs has been on this board many times, guess you missed those threads.

Hey SitasMom. Could you do me a favor and just tell me to go to hell and die and get castrated and any other nasty thing you can think of. I must be such a horrible person for going out and purchasing tie outs because i didn't want my dogs to be in a crate all day long. I should give my dogs up and never own one again because of trying to do what i THOUGHT was best for my dogs. Give me a F*&^(!% BRAKE! Have you never done something do to lack of knowledge in  your whole life that you learned later was not so smart. . My dogs have never had to stay outside before but life kind of said F U and now im getting a divorce so sue me.
For those of you who gave me CONSTRUCTIVE options thank you. My dogs mean the world to me and obviously I have learned an important lesson from this. I also learned that im an idiot for coming back on this site for help. Instead I get assholes who think there better than god and don't make mistakes.

Again thanks for those who gave me positive options.

"Have you never done something do to lack of knowledge"

Yes, I have done something do to lack of knowledge, I married a man who insisted in theathering his dog.............it was the 13 WORST years of my life! Somehow I thought he would treat his family better then his dog. Complete ignorance on my part. God's honest truth.

We all live learn.

That being said, you most likely thought your dogs would be happier outside with more area to move around, not realizing the hazards involved.

smartguy, I'm sorry to hear of your problems, I'm going through a divorce myself.  My situation has been ever-changing for a year now and I know how hard it can be.  I think you know now that you missed a tragedy and are happy your dogs didn't have to pay the price.  I'm glad it turned out the way it did, and I'm glad you learned an important lesson.  If you can't be there, the crate is the safest place for them, without collars.  A collar can get caught in the crate and they can strangle themselves trying to get free.  Just know that life does get better, take whatever positives you can, no matter how small, and hang in there.  Best wishes.

Wow, Sitasmom how little compassion you have.  Someone asks for some advice and you of all people chastise them.  I would think you would have some understanding of situations like this and not be so judgemental.  Didn't you have a dog that kept jumping the fence, so you chained the dog to a 2x4 so it would get hung up on the fence when it jumped over????  Didn't that dog jump the fence and get hit and killed by a car???  Didn't you put down a different dog after it bit a dozen of your friends????  Yes. lets talk about responsibility and responsible dog ownership.

But now you are a famous breeder and dog broker.  If you are going to be so insensitive and hypocritical, maybe we need to remind you that you are no expert.  Just because you bought a pregnant female and now advertise dogs from other kennels doesn't make you an expert or even knowledgeable.  Unlike you, at least Smartguy has titled two of his own dogs from pups.  This would be HOT - handler, owner, trained.  Mark, may be a young guy and relatively new to SchH but he has accomplished a lot more than you have.  Perhaps, you could learn something from him.

Maybe you should stick to asking questions and not offering advice if you are going to be so judgemental.  Perhaps, you could ask him for some tips on the BH, he has passed a couple recently.

Mark, hopefully you also learned a lesson from this thread.  Often times posting a question puts a big bullseye on your back, but you handle it well.

JMO,

Jim
