The dogtra 2300 is fantastic, just under $300, has nick, constant, page, digital reostat 127 settings, the best is the quick charge long lasting batteries, 100 waterproof 3/4 mile range

I have an older two dog system which still works really well, but I've always had a problem with it on thick coated GSDs. It is unreliable...sometimes will shock, sometimes not, because it can't seem to work through the hair. I have to shave a small spot on the underside of the neck where the probes touch, if I want reliability. IS THIS NORMAL? Or should I invest in a new system???

If you find your shock unreliable get longer contacts, that collar can be lose around the dogs neck and still make contact with the skin, I use 3/4 and 1 inch depending on the dog.

I am trying to decide between the Dogtra 1900 NCP Field Star and the 2300 NCP Advance. Except for the difference in range: 1/2 - 3/4 mile, I honestly don't see any difference in the two, priced about $50. apart. I'm thinking if my dog gets more than a half mile away, I'm in more trouble than any collar is gonna get me out of... LOL
For the price difference, I might be able to pick up a 12V charger.
