Those who can't discuss something logically always resort to inapropriate emotion.  Held, if you don't like e-collars then don't use them.  Why you would bring up children?  They have  nothing to do with the subject at hand, unless you are one of those who thinks their dogs are some sort of furbabies.  It's obvious you don't  understand how to use one,  if you ever learn,  and you still don't like it, then come back and talk to us, until then you have no credibility with regards to the e-collar.

KCzaja: I use capital punishment on my kids too

Hmm--how about changing the word "capital" to "corporal"?

by Held on 06 June 2008 - 18:06

HEY SUE DO NOT GET EMOTIONAL, I HAVE NO PROBLEM USING ELECTRICITY ON DOGS AS LONG I CAN ALSO USE ON BAD TRAINERS  WHEN THEY DO NOT LEARN SOMETHING I THINK THAT WOULD BE FAIR GAME THEN.OTHERWISE IT IS ONE ANIMAL TREATING ANOTHER ANIMAL AS A SLAVE.IF BAD TRAINERS STOP SPENDING SO MUCH TIME JUSTIFYING THEIR BAD METHODS AND ACTYUALLY START LEARNING TO DO THINGS RIGHT YOU WOULD ACCOMPOLISH QUITE A BIT.WHEN PEOPLE CAN NOT COME UP WITH SOME THING MORE INTELLIGENT TO SAY THEY ALWAYS RESORT TO  ,OH YOU DON'T HAVE TO USE IF U DON'T LIKE IT. THIS TYPE OF ANSWER DOES NOT MAKE A WRONG THING RIGHT.JUST THOUGHT U SHOULD KNOW.THANX.

LOL Louise, you're right, my mistake- it's too hot today, my brain is fried! Then again, my daughter is in junior high, I might be tempted over the next few years...

Held, you want to talk about people learning and yet what have you done exactly to learn about these kinds of methods? I'm sorry, some terrible trainer must have done a very poor job in front of you and left a bad taste in your mouth, not all trainers that use e-collars and prongs are abusive.

I believe any form of training can be abused if the trainer is so motivated to win that he place's winning over everything else.

So it boil's down to the trainer and how smart he or she is.  If your not smarter than the animal your training then your not cut out for the job.

LOL...  BTW   I always threatened my kid's with the purchase of a cattle prod although I never got around to buying one.  It sure would have come in handy.

I think a trainer should think for himself and not follow anyone's methods too closely.  Each animal is different and require's thinking on your feet and sometime's improvising using many methods, not just one.

An animal may not really forget its training, but it sometimes will put it in the very back of it's mind and not be thinking of it everytime you expect.   You have to keep things alive in their minds with some repitition. Use it or lose it is a good saying.

Try jumping on a horse in the spring after a long winter,  it takes a ride or two for the horse to get back in the groove.

Anyway be kind to your dog's ,  they don't care if you win, they just want to be a part of your life.

Dogs are slaves. We train them and make them do as we wish. Of course we treat them with care, they are still dogs, not children and should be treated and talked about as such. I quit dressing my dogs up and carrying them around like babies, when I was about 7.

When people act as if we electricute dogs as punishment for incorrect behaviour I have to laugh. You get the best responses by using the least amount of force or "shock" more like a light tap to get attention. If you crank the e-collar up and "fry" a dog, his brain will be anywhere but with you and you wont get the responses you want at all. Maybe even a flattened out dog in a down that wont move to save his life, to scared to work anymore.

Held your being a little over dramatic and I may turn to using the e on my kid. Lord knows nagging doesn't work and I have super results using them on the dogs.

OK LET ME SPELL IT OUT AGAIN FOR THE SLOW ONES I SAID THESE METHODS ARE NOT HUMANE NOT TO MENTION THAT MOST SO CALLED TRAINERS WITH THE EXCEPTION OF MAY BE A EXTREMELLY SMALL % CAN DO COMPULSION METHOD HOW IT SHOULD BE DONE NOT THAT IT SHOULD BE DONE.SA FAR AS WHAT I HAVE LEARNED WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT THAT THERE ARE UNBELIVABLE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE DOING THESE METHOD WRONG AND DO NOT KNOW HOW TO DO IT RIGHT.BUT IF YOU BENT ON PROVING YOUR POINT PERHAPS U CAN RCOMEND SOME VEDIOS WHERE THEY SHOW HOW TO DO THESE METHODS PROPERLY.SO I CAN SEE WHO IS DOING IT THE RIGHT WAY.IT WOULD BE AMAZING EVEN A VEDIO OF URSELF.

You must attend many seminars and train privately with e-collar experts (not wannbe experts).
