Thanks for the link, Nava's Mom. I definitely plan to give them a try!

I'm on the lookout for cheap toys too, as she destroys them so fast. I grabbed a small toy football and a softball at the Dollar Store recently, and amazingly enough, so far, they are in one piece!

Evadic, I used to say Star''s favourite chew toy was my male Shepherd, Ranger. When she was small, she would hide underneath him, and bite his legs! It would frustrate the heck out of him, because he couldn't reach her!

The Kong Wubba.  While not a good leave-it-unattended toy Barbie's has survived more training sessions than most of her other tug toys and still squeeks.

Is there a safer alternative to the tennis ball....just soo many horror stories.

I have found a hard-softball to last the longest around here. Good ol' sticks they find in the woods are inexpensive around these parts.

As I have posted before, I'm all for the WUBBA WUBBA for supervised playtime. They attract, they have tails, a squeaker and they float and are pretty durable.

I read a few reviews on the Firehouse toys, the reviews were not the greatest on the flat design due to chewing the corners and separating the seams. I will have to look further into what other shapes are available.

I have my local thrift shops and Salvation Army hold all Basket and Soccer Balls for me and pick them up every time they have a half dozen stashed away for me. Gotta admit, my dogs do Love them, but after 2 minutes they get punctured by the more ball experienced dogs I have, and then they have to be trashed immediately. One of my adults will eat the 1-2" pieces otherwise as the chemicals in the rubber must be petrol based and I suggest keeping an eye out once your dog punctures them. Otherwise with their size and for smaller mouths or dogs that have not quite figured out how to puncture them yet, they are a hoot to watch them scoot around after them, carry them around and even fling them around. Wish they made something like the basketball or Jolly ball that was affordable AND durable.

Kind of a shame we have such a hardy tough breed when it comes to buying toys. Can't give them tree limbs (splinters), can't give them stuffed toys (fiberfill everywhere), can't give them any average pet toys unless you can afford $5.00 per minute for the entertainment! laffin

Keep posting any new discoveries in toys, many of us are always looking for something new for our fur friends.

Stuffed/plush toys last about 15 seconds, no kidding. I bought one of my shepherds who had to be rehomed (but I still call him mine since he was afterall..my favorite.) a plush toy for christmas, a cute snowman that looked as sturdy as a plush toy can be. I delivered it him and asked the new owners if I could take him to the park for the afternoon - when we got there I threw it - he retrieved, and I grabbed it-he bit down (there went the entire head!) lol.

The one that has lasted the longest, through that dog, all my pups and a couple of other toy crazy dogs was the rubber tire with a rope attached it to. I don't remember the brand but it was just one of those that looks like a little tire (9" diameter) the rope did get demolished but can be easily replaced if desired.

and the firehouse toys have been wonderful also.....but havn't lasted as long as that lovely tire!

Don't know if you guys have them in the states but one of the best dual purpose toys I know of are plastic beer bottles!

Over here in the UK beer, lager & cider can be bought in 2 litre plastic bottles which, when empty & with the top screwed back on become great chew toys. The plastic is quite tough & the bottle doesn't just give but requires a surprising amount of force to puncture & rip. It also makes a loud cracking & crunching noises that the hounds just love, chuck 'em one of those & play tug until it's shredded makes for a jolly 15 minutes.... especially after the bottle contents have been put to use

loL AandA!

Yes, water bottles and 2 litter bottles last a few days here as well...but it's .10 cent deposit.Beer in a plastic bottle just doesn't have the same taste as good ol' glass bottles.

My girls have managed to destroy anything and everything except the Jolly Ball's Teaser Ball.  It's a hard, solid plastic ball with holes and inside is a smaller ball.  They throw these balls up in the air, chase them, tease each other with them, etc.  Thus far, they've not been able to chew them up.  And, they don't get all wet and slobbery like the soft toys.
